Stranded runners and way too many lazy fly balls were the story in a couple of losses to finish up the round robin.
Game 1 saw the Jets leave 14 runners on base leading to an extra inning loss 3-2 to the Saskatoon Hoppers. Chase Florendine started on the mound going 6 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run with 3 BB and 6 K’s. Ty Penner threw 1 1/3 inning allowing 3 hits, 1 run with 1 BB and 1 K. Offensively, the Jets were led by Brett Mercier who was 1 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Owen Harms was 1 for 4 with a double. Dayton Peters was 1 for 1 and Matt Gough was 1 for 2 to round out the offense.
Game 2 was a similar tail with the Jets coming out on the losing side 4-0. Connor Green started on the mound going 4 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits, 4 runs with 2 earned runs, 3 BB’s and 4 K’s. Kaiden Cardoso finished things off going 1 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits with 1 K. Offensively, the Jets were led by Owen Harms who was 1 for 3. Cooper Jones was 1 for 3. Kaiden Cardoso was 1 for 3 and Matt Rath rounded out the offense going 1 for 3.
The Jets ended up winning their pool after Thursday and Friday’s results and will meet up against the Saskatoon Backs at 10 am at Spitz Stadium.
