Hittel and Marion committ to college programs!

Vauxhall, AB –

2 more Jets have committed to play college baseball in the fall of 2010 – overall this makes 12 Jets moving on to the collegiate level! Hittel and Marion join 10 other Jets who have committed to schools so far.  See below for details:

The 2009-2010 college committment campaign starts off with a bang as 2nd year standout Shane Zimmer has committed to Canisius College Griffins in Buffalo, NY.  Zimmer is just coming back from ACL surgery last May.

Former Jet – LHP – Jay Johnson drafted by Blue Jays!

New York, NY

The Vauxhall Academy of Baseball is proud to announce that LHP – Jay Johnson (Sussex Corner, NB) was drafted 786th overall (26th round) by the Toronto Blue Jays.  Johnson played for the Jets in 2006-2007.  He later went on to star for the PBA and now attends Texas Tech University.   Johnson was also drafted last year in the 25th round by the Orioles.   Johnson attended the Jets Annual Marathon Game last night in Vauxhall and spent some time meeting with players and the coaching staff. 

Jay becomes the 9th draft pick from the VAB over the last 4 years.   Last year being the highlight with 6 total draft picks. 

Congrats to Jay and his family – the entire VAB organization is very proud of Jay and all his accomplishments.

Juniors – Davies and Hendriks invited to 14th Annual Junior Sunbelt Classic!

Current grade 11 standouts – RHP – Justin Davies – Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia and 3B – Brendan Hendriks – Cochrane, Alberta have been invited to attend the 14th Annual Junior Sunbelt Classic in McAlester, Oklahoma. 

The tournament is one of most heavily scouted events in North America with represenation from across the United States.  Professional Scouts as well as College Recruiters/Coaches attend the event annually.  The tournament runs June 11th – 16th.  The tournament is a tremendous life experience as both players will be billeting with local families throughout the tournament and get a true taste of southern hospitality.   The entire VAB organization is proud of these young men and wish them all the success on their road trip.

Jets finish season with Great Falls mini tournament victory!

Great Falls, Montana –

The VAB Jets ended their season on a winning note with a split in Great Falls.  The Jets ended up winning the 3 team mini tournament with a 3-1 record.  Great Falls was 2-2 and Edmonton was 1-3. 

The Jets came out flat in the opening game Sunday morning and could not recover loosing 9-6 to the Edmonton Cardinals.  The Edmonton starting pitcher threw very well that also attributed to the offense being flat early. Taylor Simmonds started on the mound throwing well going 4 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 4 BB’s and 7 K’s to earn the no decision.  Victor Caruso took the loss going 1 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs or 1 hit, 1 K and 2 BB’s.  Derek Grubel threw well although he allowed a couple hits and 2 BB’s.  Blair Balog finished things off getting the final 2 outs.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 4 with a run scored.  Shane Zimmer was 2 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI’s and run scored.  Ben Douglas was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Greg Adams was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Marc St. Jean also had a good day going 2 for 3 with a double and run scored. 

Game 2 saw the Jets match up with Great Falls to determine the winner of the mini tournament with the Jets coming out on top 9-2.  Paul Schaak started on the mound throwing well and earning the victory going 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 BB’s with 6 K’s.  Chad Hodges threw the final inning well with 1 hit and 1 earned run while battling through a steady rain and very wet mound.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 3 for 5 with a run scored.  Luke Barry was 2 for 5 with an RBI and run scored.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Brody McDonald was 1 for 1.  Greg Adams was 1 for 3 .  Chayse Marion was 1 for 2 with a run scored.  Brant Hittel was 1 for 3 with a double, RBI and run scored.  Matt Clark was 1 for 3 with a HR. 

The victory finishes the Jets record with the most in the programs 4 year history – 31 – 10 overall.  The Jets catured 3 tournament titles (Haven Agencies (Vauxhall), Bozeman and Great Falls). 

The Jets are very proud of all our student-athletes for their dedication to the classroom, the community, billets and on the field.  We wish all the Seniors a long, healthy and successful career.

Jets open Great Falls with 2 wins!

Great Falls, Montana –

The Jets opened up the Great Falls tournament with 2 victory Sunday afternoon.  Game 1 saw the Jets win in the bottom of the 7th inning by a score of 4-3.  Brody McDonald started on the mound earning a no-decision going 6 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs, 1 earned run, 9 hits, 6 K’s and 0 BB’s.  Chad Hodges earned the win going 2/3 of the innings allowing 1 BB and 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 4.  Luke Barry was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Shane Zimmer was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Ben Douglas was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s.  Chayse Marion was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Brendan Hendriks was 2 for 3.  Greg Adams rounded out the offense with a 1 for 2 effort.

Game 2 saw the Jets come out on top again with a 7-2 victory.  Justin Davies started on the mound earning the victory going 6 innings allowing 2 runs, 0 earned runs, 4 hits, 7 K’s and 1 BB.  Blair Balog threw the final inning clean with 1 K.  Offensively the Jets were led by Luke Barry who was 1 for 3 with an RBI and run scored.  Ben Douglas was 1 for 3 with a run scored and RBI.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 3 with a triple and a run scored.  Chayse Marion was 1 for 1 with a double, RBI and 3 runs scored.  Brant Hittel was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Greg Adams rounded out the offense with a very good game going 3 for 3 with a double and run scored.

The 2 wins pushes the Jets overall record to 30 – 9 overall.  Next action is tomorrow at 11 am and 1 pm vs Edmonton and Great Falls.

Great Falls Tournament Schedule Updated!

Jets lose a tight one vs Lethbridge Bulls!

Lethbridge, AB –

The VAB Jets played well offensively and on the mound but several defensive mistakes costs the Jets an upset win over the much older and expereienced Lethbridge Bulls.  The Jets gave up 4 unearned runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to lose 10-9 to a solid Bulls squad.  Paul Schaak started earning a no-decision going 3 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 5 run, 2 earned runs, 2 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Ben Dartnell threw 1/3 of an inning clean.  Taylor Simmonds threw a solid 2 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 unearned run with a K.  Victor Caruso took the loss despite giving up only 1 hit.  Caruso ended with 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 hit, 4 unearned runs with a BB.  On the day the Jets made 6 errors in the loss. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 5 with a triple and RBI.  Luke Barry was 1 for 2 with a double, 3 BB’s and 3 runs scored.  Ben Douglas was 3 for 4 with an RBI.  Brendan Hendriks was 2 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI’s.  Brant Hittel was 2 for 2 with 2 BB’s and 2 runs scored. 

The loss pushes the Jets overall record to 28 – 9.  The Jets will finish off their spring schedule in Great Falls starting Saturday.

Jets win 4th annual Tournament!

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB Jets got behind early 4-0 and 6-2 and found a way to battle back and win the tournament 18-8.  Ben Douglas earned the victory on the mound going 4 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 runs with 4 K’s and 2 BB’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led again by Brendan Hendriks who was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI.  Shane Zimmer was 3 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI’s and a run scored.  Luke Barry was was 2 for 3 with his 1st HR of the season and 3 runs scored.  Brant Hittel was 1 for 2 with an RBI and run scored.  Matt Clark was 1 for 2 with a huge 3 run HR with 4 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.  Brody McDonald and Marc St. Jean also had 1 hit each with 2 RBI’s each.

The victory pushes the Jets overall record to 28 – 8 overall.  The championship is the Jets 4th straight Haven Agencies Invitational.
