Great Falls, Montana –
The VAB Jets ended their season on a winning note with a split in Great Falls. The Jets ended up winning the 3 team mini tournament with a 3-1 record. Great Falls was 2-2 and Edmonton was 1-3.
The Jets came out flat in the opening game Sunday morning and could not recover loosing 9-6 to the Edmonton Cardinals. The Edmonton starting pitcher threw very well that also attributed to the offense being flat early. Taylor Simmonds started on the mound throwing well going 4 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 4 BB’s and 7 K’s to earn the no decision. Victor Caruso took the loss going 1 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs or 1 hit, 1 K and 2 BB’s. Derek Grubel threw well although he allowed a couple hits and 2 BB’s. Blair Balog finished things off getting the final 2 outs. Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 4 with a run scored. Shane Zimmer was 2 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI’s and run scored. Ben Douglas was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Greg Adams was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Marc St. Jean also had a good day going 2 for 3 with a double and run scored.
Game 2 saw the Jets match up with Great Falls to determine the winner of the mini tournament with the Jets coming out on top 9-2. Paul Schaak started on the mound throwing well and earning the victory going 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 BB’s with 6 K’s. Chad Hodges threw the final inning well with 1 hit and 1 earned run while battling through a steady rain and very wet mound. Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 3 for 5 with a run scored. Luke Barry was 2 for 5 with an RBI and run scored. Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Brody McDonald was 1 for 1. Greg Adams was 1 for 3 . Chayse Marion was 1 for 2 with a run scored. Brant Hittel was 1 for 3 with a double, RBI and run scored. Matt Clark was 1 for 3 with a HR.
The victory finishes the Jets record with the most in the programs 4 year history – 31 – 10 overall. The Jets catured 3 tournament titles (Haven Agencies (Vauxhall), Bozeman and Great Falls).
