Vauxhall, AB –
The VAB Jets opened the 2010/2011 season with a 3-2 victory over the PBA Dawgs. It was beginning of Spirit Week at VHS and VES so a sell-out crowd made a very good high school baseball atmosphere. The high school rock band also played for the crowd between innings.
Chad Hodges started on the mound going 4 innings earning the victory allowing 1 hit, 0 run, 4 K’s and 0 BB’s. Anthony McKinley threw a solid 5th inning allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 2 K’s and 0 BB’s. Archie Davis threw a good 6th inning allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 1 K and 0 BB’s. Ben Dartnell earned the save going 1 inning allowing 1 hit, 0 runs with 1 K and 1 BB.
Offensively, the Jets were led by Jeremie Fagnon who was 1 for 4 with a double and run scored. Mitch McGeein was 1 for 2 with a solo HR. Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Curtis Mazurkewich was 1 for 2 with a run scored. Konner Lutz was 1 for 1 with a double. Travis Wallace was 1 for 2. Mark St. Jean was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Tyson Zarowny was 2 for 3 to round out a well balanced offense.
The victory starts the Jets off with a 1-0 record this fall and next action is Friday night in Belgrade, Montana vs Big Sky Seniors.
Good luck to the 3 Mizuno Camp Invitees. Seifrit, McKinley and Spencer will be attending the Mizuno Camp in Toronto at the Rogers Centre.
