Jets win 2 on Sunday to come out on top!

Okotoks, AB – 

It was an exciting day of baseball in Okotoks to finish up the 3rd Annual Okotoks Dawgs Tournament.

The semi final match up was with a good Okotoks Reds club.  JP Stevenson was outstanding starting on the mound going 6 innings allowing 2 hits with 1 BB and 6 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets had a productive day.  Joel Mazurkewich was 1 for 3.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 3 for 3 RBI’s.  Brayden Resch was 1 for 4.  Trey Grant was 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored.  Brett Harrison was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Alex Bishop was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Tyler Scott was 2 for 2 with an RBI.  The victory lead to a match-up vs Okotoks Black.

The final game saw the Jets fall behind to Okotoks Blk 2-0, 4-1 and 6-2 before scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th including a 2 run triple by Brayden Resch to win the ball game.

Jared Kennedy start on the mound going 4 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run with 2 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Nolan Bumstead earned the victory going 3 innings allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned runs with 4 K’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Nolan Bumstead who was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Brayden Resch was 2 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI’s.  Trey Grant was 1 for 3 with a double.  Brett Harrison was 2 for 3 to round out the offense.

The Tournament victory is the 3rd straight for the Jets in Okotoks.

Special thanks for the Dawgs organization especially Don and Kubie for all their hard work on the field to keep the field in great shape through the rainy conditions.

 

8th Annual Award/Scholarship Fundraising Dinner!

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB is excited for the 8th annual Awards/Scholarship Fundraising Banquet March 1, 2014 at the Vauxhall Community Hall (5 pm cocktails and 5:45 pm program begins).  Former 14 year MLB veteran Sandy Alomar Sr will be the featured speaker at this years event.  Alomar coached several years after his playing career was over both in the minor leagues and at the Major League level.  Sandy is also the father of HOF/Toronto Blue Jay legend Robbie Alomar and MLB All-star Sandy Alomar Jr.

The evening will once again be highlighted by the Reno Lizzi Scholarships as well as several other Awards and Scholarship presentations.

A silent auction, live auction and raffles will be going on throughout the evening with Marty Baceda leading the charge as our MC.

Auction items will be posted prior to the banquet.  Some of the highlighted items received so far is a Joe Montana limited edition signed jersey, Magic Johnson signed jersey, Joe Torre Signed Jersey and Brett Lawrie signed game worn jersey.

Jets split with Dawgs!

Okotoks, AB –

The Jets split with the Dawgs winning game 1 by a score of 6-3 and losing game 2 by a score of 3-2.

Brady Moxham started game 1 going 4 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 runs with 4 K’s and 4 BB’s to earn the victory.  Josh Burgmann earned the save going 2 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 run with 2 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Offensively, it was a tough day to hit with Nolan Bumstead going 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Brayden Resch was 1 for 3.  Brett Harrison, Alex Bishop, Nolan Rattai and Wyatt Schlosser all ended with 1 hit each.

Game 2 saw the Jets carry a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th and ended up losing 3-2.  Ben Onyshko started on the mound going 4 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 unearned run with 3 BB’s and 9 K’s.  Nolan Bumstead took the loss going 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run with 1 BB.  Brayden Resch, Cole Schneider and Ty Scott each collected a hit each to round out the offense.

Next action is Sunday morning vs Sherwood Park at 11 am and U of C at 2 pm.

Jets split with PBA at home!

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB Jets split a DH with PBA JV winning game 1 8-1 and losing game 2 4-3.

Game 1 saw Luc Hebert throw a complete game on 77 pitches.  Hebert allowed 1 unearned run in the 7th inning, 4 hits with 8 K’s and 0 BB’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Joel Mazurkewich who was 1 for 2.  Jager Toffan was 1 for 3.  Anthony McKinley was 1 for 3 with a triple.  Brayden Resch was 1 for 4.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Jose Calderon was 1 for 3 with a solo HR.  Mike Holmes rounded out the offense going 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.

Game 2 saw Nelson Quark start and throw 4 2/3 solid innings 0 hit, 1 run with 2 BB’s and 6 K’s.  Pat Machibroda threw 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit, 3 runs with only 1 earned and 4 BB’s.  Nick Stobbe finished things allowing for 2/3 of an inning.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Joel Mazurkewich who was 1 for 4.  Justin Clarkson was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Anthony McKinley was 2 for 4.  Brayden Resch was 2 for 4 to round out the offense.

The Jets record is now 9-3-2 overall.  Next action is next Saturday and Sunday against the Edmonton Cardinals.  DH’s both days.  The Jets will still be missing Thibideau, Onyshko and Bumstead who are away with the Junior National Team in Florida.

 

Jets lose a heartbreaker in semi and win another!

Kamloops, BC –

The semi final matchup with Okotoks took a sudden turn in the 7th inning.  The Jets were leading 3-0 after 6 innings and gave up 4 runs in the 7th.  The Jets then loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th but couldn’t push anyone across.

Luc Hebert started the semi final pitching into the 7th inning allowing 6 hits, 3 runs with 7 K’s and 0 BB.  Jesse Borden threw a great final inning with 1 hit and 1 run and a K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Chris Thibideau who was 1 for 3 with a double.  Justin Clarkson was 3 for 4 with a run scored.  Jager Toffan was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.  Brayden Resch was 2 for 3 with a RBI.  Treyton Grant rounded out the offense going 1 for 3.

The Jets had plenty of pitching left so played the loser of the other semi final game.  The Jets come out on top by a score of 10-0 over the Parksville Royals.  Nelson Quark threw 3 innings for the win allowing 1 hit, 1 BB with 3 K’s.  Pat Machibroda closed things out going 2 innings allowing 1 hit with 1 BB.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Joel Mazurkewich who was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Justin Clarkson was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Nolan Bumstead was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored.  Nolan Rattai was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s.  Treyton Grant was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Jose Calderon was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Brett Harrison 1 for 2.  Mike Holmes was 1 for 2.  Brayden Resch was 1 for 1 with a double.

The Jets would like to wish 3 current players who will be leaving to Orlando, Florida to tryout for Team Canada on Thursday.  Nolan Bumstead, Chris Thibideau and Ben Onyshko (who was added after his great start on Friday) will all travel south for 10 days to compete against several professional teams.  Good luck fellas!

Jets win semi final – lose the final!

Las Vegas, NV –

The VAB Jets had a great semi final game with the North Shore Twins from BC.  The Jets went up 7-0, then found themselves down 9-7 before coming out on top 14-9.  Luc Hebert started on the mound and was dominant on the mound with a no hitter threw 3 innings and ran into trouble in the 4th.  Hebert threw 3 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits, 8 runs, 3 BB’s and 5 K’s.  Nelson Quark earned the victory in relief going 2 2/3 inning allowing 3 hits, 1 run with 4 K’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Justin Clarkson was 4 for 5 with an RBI double.  Jager Toffan was 1 for 4.  Nolan Bumstead was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s.  Anthony McKinley was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Brayden Resch was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Jose Calderon was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Treyton Grant finished 2 for 4.

The Jets went into the final and got behind early giving up 7 runs in the 1st inning.  Pat Machibroda started going 2/3 of an inning allowing 6 hit, 7 runs, 6 earned runs with 1 BB.  Jesse Borden went 1 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned runs with 1 BB and 1 K.  Nolan Rattai threw 1 2/3 allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 1 BB.  Offensively, the Jets only managed 3 hits.  Chris Thibideau went 1 for 2.  Nolan Bumstead and Anthony McKinley each hat 1 hit.

Jets finish off the round robin with a big win to advance to semi-final!

The VAB Jets beat the Rams 13-2 to advance to the semi – final of the Bishop Gorman Easter Classic.  Luke Whelpton started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB and 7 K’s.  Nick Stobbe threw a solid inning allowing a BB.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Chris Thibideau who was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.  Guillaume Gingras was 2 for 4 with a run scored and RBI.  Mitch McGeein was 1 for 2 with an RBI and run scored.  Travis Wallace was 1 for 2 with a 2 run HR and 3 runs scored.  Matt Benn was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Devan Thomas was 1 for 3 with a 3 run HR.  Dan Moro was 1 for 2 with a run scored.  Jason Field was 1 for 3 and JG Weeks was 2 for 2 with an RBI and Jose Calderon was 2 for 2.

The victory puts the Jets record to 2-1 in the tournament and 9-6 overall.  The Jets will face Gloucester HS, NJ.  They are a Nationally ranked HS in the USA

Jets come alive with convincing victory!

Las Vegas, NV

The VAB bats came alive in a big way pounding out 15 hits and Spencer was very solid on the mound only allowing 3 hits.  Chris Thibideau was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s.  Jager Toffan was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s with a triple.  Mitch McGeein was 2 for 5 with a grand slam.  Konner Lutz was 1 for 3.  Matt Benn was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Guillaume Gingras was 2 for 3 with a run scored.  Devan Thomas was 2 for 3 with a HR and 3 RBI’s.  Jason Field was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Dan Moro rounded out the offense going 1 for 1 with 3 BB’s and a run scored.

Tanner Spencer threw a complete game going 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs with 4 BB’s and 4 K’s.

The win puts the Jets record at 1-1 in the tournament and will face Gloucester, NJ tomorrow at 1:30pm at Buckholder Park in Henderson, NV

Seifrit travels to Sunshine State and signs with Pensacola State!

Another Jet has committed to play college baseball in the US.

RHP – Logan Seifrit – Spruce Grove, AB –has accepted a full scholarship and signed a National Letter of Intent to attend NJCAA Division 1 Pensacola State Pirates in Pensacola, Florida .  The Pirates play in one of the toughest conference in NJCAA baseball Florida Panhandle Conference.

Other Jets to sign this season

OF/INF – Matt Benn – Teulon, MB –has accepted a scholarship and signed a National Letter of Intent to attend NJCAA Division 1 Colby Community College (Colby, Kansas).  The Trojans play in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

C – Konner Lutz – Medicine Hat, AB –  has accepted an athletic/academic scholarship and signed a National Letter of Intent to attend NCAA Division 1 powerhouse Stetson University Hatters.  The Hatters play in the Atlantic Sun Conference and are the defending conference champions.  Stetson was ranked as high as #15 in the country last season and played in the NCAA Tournament in 2010.   Lutz is the second of 2 Jets to sign early this season.  For more information on the Hatters: http://www.gohatters.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=14600&SPID=6736&SPSID=69238
