6th Annual Celebration of Achievement!

 Vauxhall, AB – 


It has became a tradition of the Jets to celebrate special achievements throughout the 2016/2017 season.  A great meal with several presentations and awards was highlighted by the Pennies for K’s fundraising presentation.  The Kitagawa’s presented a cheque matching donations and topping it up with a golf tournament donation.   Special thanks to Brian and Susan Van Uden and Yukio and Barbara Kitagawa for providing dinner.

 

2017 was a tremendous success both on and off the field.  The Jets finished the spring with a 31-10 record, 3 Tournament Championships (including the 2017 BOW), 2nd place finish and a 3rd place finish.  All 9 graduating seniors are set to move onto college baseball programs (including 4 to NCAA Division 1 programs) and 5 Jets spent time throughout the year with the Canadian Junior National Team (currently 4 Jets are still with the CJNT).  Please see below all the award winners from last night:

Jets stay undefeated with a 3-0 win of Bishop Gorman!

Las Vegas, NV – 

The Jets matched up with National powerhouse Bishop Gorman HS and it turned out to be a great baseball game.  The Jets scored 1 in the top of the 1st and 2 runs in the top of the 4th to hold on for a 3-0 victory.  Starting pitcher Wes Moore was dominate striking out 6 to start the game.  Moore went 5 innings allowing 0 hits with 3 BB’s and 10 K’s to earn the victory.  Garrett Nicholson earned the save going 2 innings allowing 2 hits with 1 BB and 3 K’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Jared Binsfeld who was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles.  Owen Harms was 1 for 4.  Damiano Palmegiani was 1 for 3  and Victor Cerny was 3 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI’s.

The Jets now match up with Desert Oasis HS out of Nevada in the semi final at 12 noon.  Follow twitter for results in the semi final.

Jets open 2017 spring season with a couple of victories!

It was a great March day to open the season for the Jets with 18 degree temperatures.  Game 1 saw the Jets jump out to an early lead and never looked back beating the PBA JV 8-1.

Wesley Moore started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 1 hit with 4 K’s and 0 BB’s.  Garrett Hawkings threw 2 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit with 4 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Chase Floredine threw 1 1/3 allowing 1 K with 1 BB.  Conner Green finished things off going 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 run with 1 BB and 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Matt Rath who was 1 for 6 with an RBI.  Owen Harms was 1 for 6.  Damiano Palmegiani was 2 for 4 with a double.  Victor Cerny was 1 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.  Jared Binsfeld was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Dayton Peters was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and Kaiden Cardoso rounded out the offense going 1 for 4.

Game 2 saw the Jets take on the Prospects Academy winning by a score of 16-3.  The game was tight until the 5th when the Jets broke it open.  Garrett Nicholson started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 1 hit with 3 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Ben Erwin threw 2 solid innings allowing 2 hits with 3  K’s and 1 BB.  Jaden Griffin threw 1 inning allowing 1 hit, 2 runs with 3 BB’s and 2 K’s. Adam Macko threw 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 unearned run with 4 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Zach Newman rounded out the staff going 1 quick inning with 1 K’.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Liam Vulcano who was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and 3 BB’s.  Owen Harms was 3 for 6 with 2 doubles and an RBI.  Damiano Palmegiani was 1 for 5.  Victor Cerny was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s.  Brett Mercier was 2 for 6 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s.  Cooper Jones was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Matt Rath rounded out the offense going 1 for 5 with an RBI.

The Jets will not be playing Sunday due to the cool weather forecast and played 2 – 9 inning game today instead.  Next action is this week vs PBA JV – dates TBD based on weather.

Win steak snapped at 8 games with a split vs Lethbridge!

Vauxhall, AB – 

On a beautiful Mothers Day in Vauxhall the Jets saw their winning streak snapped at 8 games with a 5-4 loss to Lethbridge before coming back with a 9-0 victory in game 2.

Josh Burgmann started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 BB and 9 K’s.  Connor Green threw 1 inning allowing 4 hits, 5 runs with 4 BB’s.  David Richards finished things off going 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 2 BB’s with 3 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets only managed 3 hits.  Victory Cerny went 1 for 3.  Jared Binsfeld was 1 for 3 and Matt Rath was 1 for 2.

Game 2 saw the Jets score most innings cruising to a 9-0 victory.  Carsen Perkins started on the mound going 5 innings allowing 3 hits with 3 K’s.  Garrett Nicholson went 2 innings allowing 1 hit with 1 BB and 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Jordan Malainey who was 1 for 4 with a triple.  Shawn Grandmont was 2 for 4 with a 2 run HR and 3 RBI’s.  Jordan Dray was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Brett Resch was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Victor Cerny was 2 for 2.  Tyler Wood was 1 for 2 with 3 RBI’s.  Matt Rath was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.  Liam Vulcano rounded out the offense going 2 for 3.

Next action for the Jets is next Saturday in Okotoks DH.

Jets lose a great game 2-1 in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV –

The Jets got 3 hits in the 1st inning scoring a run but couldn’t get anymore losing a heart breaker 2-1 to Bishop Gorman HS.  It was a pitching duel all the way with Josh Burgmann starting on the mound for the Jets going 5 innings allowing 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run with 3 BB’s and 7 K’s.  Wesley Moore finished things off throwing a perfect inning with a K.  Offensively, the Jets struck out 15 times against a very good pitcher from Gorman.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Jordan Malainey who was 1 for 3.  Jordan Dray was 2 for 3.  Victory Cerny was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Damiano Palmegiani was 1 for 3 and Spencer Rankin was 1 for 3.

Twin Falls, Idaho –          

Game 1 vs Twin Falls HS was a great ball game with the Jets coming out on top in extra innings 3-2.  Brandon Hatley started on the mound going 5 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 runs with 3 BB’s and  K’s.  Jalen Lane earned the victory with 3 2/3 innings allowing 0 hits with 2 BB’s and 5 K’s (including striking out the side in the bottom of the 8th with bases loaded).  Offensively, the Jets were led by Jordan Dray who was 1 for 3 with a double.  Victor Cerny was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.  Spencer Rankin was 2 for 4 with a double.  Tyler Wood was 1 for 4 and Liam Vulcano was 1 for 4.

Game 2 vs Hillcrest HS was a tight ball game until the 6th when Hillcrest scored 5 runs cruising to an 8-1 victory.  Bryce Fraser started on the mound going 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs with 1 BB and 4 K’s.  Garrett Nicholson finished things off allowing 2 hits, 5 runs, 2 earned runs with 1 BB and 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets only strike out 1 time but only managed 5 hits with a lot of soft contact.  Jordan Dray was 1 for 3 with a double.  Victor Cerny was 1 for 3.  Jordan Malainey was 2 for 3 and Tyler Wood was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Next action for the Jets is Wednesday March 30th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Marathon Game is the official end of the fall season

The 10th Annual Marathon game is officially underway beginning at 10am.  The Jets veterans held a draft last night before taking the field at 9:45 this morning.  It turned out to be a sunny yet cool fall day.  The game is a fun way to end the fall season before moving indoors when the real work gets started.  Thanks to everyone for their support of the 10th Annual Marathon game.

Jets are the 2015 Best of the West Champions!

Kamloops, BC

It was a great weekend of baseball in Kamloops.  The Jets won the 2015 Best of the West Tournament over Okotoks Dawgs by a score of 6-2.  The game was a good game all the way thru with the Jets opening 2-0 before hanging on for a 6-2 win.  Top hitter award was presented to Nolan Rattai and top defensive player was awarded to Tyler Scott.  Rattai left the game in the 5th inning with a serious lower leg injury.  On the mound Brody Burnett threw 4 great innings allowing 3 hits 3 BB’s and 2 K’s.  KJ Moreno held Okotoks tight with 1 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits 1 earned run with 2 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Jake Cook earned the save going 1 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit with 1 BB and 2 K’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led Blake Gallagher who was 1 for 4.  Zack Kunkel was 1 for 4 with a triple.  Jordan Dray was 1 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI’s.  Sean Robbins was 1 for 3 with a double.  Luxon Glor was 2 for 3.  Nolan Rattai rounded out the offense going 2 for 3 with a triple.

 

How the boys got to the Final:

The semi final started as a pitchers duel and ended in a slug fest with a 15-11 victory for the Jets over the Prospects.  Reilly O’Rourke started on the mound going 3 1/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 7 runs, 1 earned run with 1 BB and 4 K’s.  Carsen Perkins threw 2 innings allowing 6 hits, 4 runs with 2 K’s.  Jalen Lane finished things off going 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit with 1 BB and 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Scott going 1 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Blake Gallagher was 1 for 5 with a triple and 2 RBI’s.  Zach Kunkel was 3 for 5 with a double, HR and 3 RBI’s.  Brett Resch was 3 for 5 with an RBI.  Geordie McDougal was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Luxon Glor rounded out the offense going 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Jets no hitter finishes off Okotoks for Championship!

Great Falls, Montana – 

The Vauxhall Academy saw a 23 game winning streak come to an end last night and needed to regroup to finish the season off on a positive note.  They sure did with a combined no-hitter thrown by Josh Burgmann and Jesse Borden in a 7-0 victory over the Okotoks Dawgs to claim their 3rd straight Great Falls Tournament Championship.

Josh Burgmann started on the mound and dominated going 6 innings of no – hit ball with 4 BB’s and 10 K’s.  Burgmann’s terrific performance was followed by senior Jesse Borden who threw 1 inning with 1 K to finish off the no-hitter.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Joel Mazurkewich who was 3 for 4.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Brayden Resch was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 1 RBI.  Brett Harrison was 1 for 2 with a double.  Trey Grant was 1 for 3.  Jay Oram was 1 for 2.

The Vauxhall Academy ended the regular season with a 27 – 8 record and will be the Annual TCMM Memorial Game vs Lethbridge Bulls 7 pm @ Spitz Stadium.  The Jets started the season 3-7 and ended 24-1 to finish with a 27-8 record overall and 3 straight tournament victories.  Nice job fellas.
