Jets continue to roll with 2 more victories!

Belgrade, Montana –

The Jets continue their winning ways with a 5-2 and 7-5 victory over the Big Sky Seniors.  Game 1 saw Zach Mayo make his Jets debut going 4 innings allowing 1 hit, 2 runs, 5 K’s with 7 BB’s.  Archie Davis threw well in relief earning the victory going 2 innings allowing 0 hit, 0 runs and 2 K’s.  Chad Hodges earned the save throwing the final inning clean. 

Offensively, the Jets faced a very tough RHP and were down 2-0 after 5 innings.  Jeremy Fagnan was 1 for 3 with a double.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 4 with a double, RBI and run scored.  Greg Adams was 1 for 3 with an RBI, run scored and stolen base.  Curtis Mazurkewich was 1 for 3 with a double and run scored.  Konner Lutz was 2 for 4.  Mitch McGeein was 1 for 2 with a run scored and RBI.  Marc St. Jean was 1 for 2 and Tyson Zarowny was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s. 

Game 2 saw Greg Adams started and earned the victory going 3 innings allowing 5 hits, 5 runs, 2 earned runs, 2 K’s and 1 BB.  Brendan Hendriks threw the next 2 innings allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Marc St. Jean earned the save with 2 K’s and 0’s across the board.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s.  Jeremy Fagnan was 1 for 2 with a triple, RBI and run scored.  Greg Adams was 2 for 4 with a triple and run scored.  Curtis Mazurkewich was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a run scored.  Tyler Kendal was 1 for 4 with an RBI and run scored.  Konner Lutz was 2 for 3 with a double and run scored.  Marc St. Jean rounded out the offense and had a great game going 3 for 3 with an RBI and run scored. 

The 2 victories pushes the Jets record to 4-0 overall and next action is Sunday vs Big Sky Seniors at 10 am (9 inning game).

Jets open Montana road trip with a convincing victory!

Belgrade, Montana –

The VAB began their road trip to Belgrade, Montana with a 10-3 victory over the Big Sky Seniors (Grade 12 all star team from Montana/South Dakota).  Blair Balog started on the mound and earned the victory throwing 4 very solid innings allowing 5 hits, 3 run but all were unearned, 3 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Travis Wallace earned the save in relief throwing 3 innings allowing 0 hits and 0 runs. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Brendan Hendriks who was 2 for 4 with a triple, 3 RBI’s and a run scored.  Greg Adams was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI’s and a run scored.  Curtis Mazurkewich was 1 for 3 with a triple, 2 RBI’s and a run scored.  Tyson Zarowny rounded out the offense who was 2 for 4 with an RBI. 

Next action for the Jets is tomorrow against the same Big Sky Seniors with a 1pm (DH) slated.  The Jets are without 3 Junior pitchers – Seifrit, McKinley and Spencer who are all attending the Mizuno Camp in Toronto.

The victory pushes the Jets record to 2-0 overall.

Another former Jet committs to NCAA Division 1!

1 more former VAB Jets has committed to attend NCAA Division 1 baseball program this coming fall.  Daniel Worb (2007-2009) – Winnipeg, Manitoba has signed a National Letter of Intent for the fall.  The Jets have had 8 Jets receive NCAA Division 1 Scholarships in the last 2 years.

Another former VAB Jet has committed to attend NCAA Division 1 baseball program on scholarship this coming fall.   Scott Hornstra (2006/2007) has signed a National Letter of Intent for the fall.

4 Former Jets commit to Division 1 schools!

4 Former VAB Jets have committed to attend NCAA Division 1 baseball programs on scholarship this coming fall.  Dale Anderson (2006/2007 – 2007/2008), Brendan Miller (2006/2007), Alex Tufts (2006/2007) and Lionel Morrill (2006/2007 – 2007/2008) have all signed National Letter of Intents for the fall.

Former Jet – LHP – Jay Johnson drafted by Blue Jays!

New York, NY

The Vauxhall Academy of Baseball is proud to announce that LHP – Jay Johnson (Sussex Corner, NB) was drafted 786th overall (26th round) by the Toronto Blue Jays.  Johnson played for the Jets in 2006-2007.  He later went on to star for the PBA and now attends Texas Tech University.   Johnson was also drafted last year in the 25th round by the Orioles.   Johnson attended the Jets Annual Marathon Game last night in Vauxhall and spent some time meeting with players and the coaching staff. 

Jay becomes the 9th draft pick from the VAB over the last 4 years.   Last year being the highlight with 6 total draft picks. 

Congrats to Jay and his family – the entire VAB organization is very proud of Jay and all his accomplishments.

Juniors – Davies and Hendriks invited to 14th Annual Junior Sunbelt Classic!

Current grade 11 standouts – RHP – Justin Davies – Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia and 3B – Brendan Hendriks – Cochrane, Alberta have been invited to attend the 14th Annual Junior Sunbelt Classic in McAlester, Oklahoma. 

The tournament is one of most heavily scouted events in North America with represenation from across the United States.  Professional Scouts as well as College Recruiters/Coaches attend the event annually.  The tournament runs June 11th – 16th.  The tournament is a tremendous life experience as both players will be billeting with local families throughout the tournament and get a true taste of southern hospitality.   The entire VAB organization is proud of these young men and wish them all the success on their road trip.

Jets finish season with Great Falls mini tournament victory!

Great Falls, Montana –

The VAB Jets ended their season on a winning note with a split in Great Falls.  The Jets ended up winning the 3 team mini tournament with a 3-1 record.  Great Falls was 2-2 and Edmonton was 1-3. 

The Jets came out flat in the opening game Sunday morning and could not recover loosing 9-6 to the Edmonton Cardinals.  The Edmonton starting pitcher threw very well that also attributed to the offense being flat early. Taylor Simmonds started on the mound throwing well going 4 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 4 BB’s and 7 K’s to earn the no decision.  Victor Caruso took the loss going 1 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs or 1 hit, 1 K and 2 BB’s.  Derek Grubel threw well although he allowed a couple hits and 2 BB’s.  Blair Balog finished things off getting the final 2 outs.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 4 with a run scored.  Shane Zimmer was 2 for 4 with a double, 3 RBI’s and run scored.  Ben Douglas was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Greg Adams was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Marc St. Jean also had a good day going 2 for 3 with a double and run scored. 

Game 2 saw the Jets match up with Great Falls to determine the winner of the mini tournament with the Jets coming out on top 9-2.  Paul Schaak started on the mound throwing well and earning the victory going 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 BB’s with 6 K’s.  Chad Hodges threw the final inning well with 1 hit and 1 earned run while battling through a steady rain and very wet mound.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 3 for 5 with a run scored.  Luke Barry was 2 for 5 with an RBI and run scored.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Brody McDonald was 1 for 1.  Greg Adams was 1 for 3 .  Chayse Marion was 1 for 2 with a run scored.  Brant Hittel was 1 for 3 with a double, RBI and run scored.  Matt Clark was 1 for 3 with a HR. 

The victory finishes the Jets record with the most in the programs 4 year history – 31 – 10 overall.  The Jets catured 3 tournament titles (Haven Agencies (Vauxhall), Bozeman and Great Falls). 

The Jets are very proud of all our student-athletes for their dedication to the classroom, the community, billets and on the field.  We wish all the Seniors a long, healthy and successful career.
