Jets are the 2015 Best of the West Champions!

Kamloops, BC

It was a great weekend of baseball in Kamloops.  The Jets won the 2015 Best of the West Tournament over Okotoks Dawgs by a score of 6-2.  The game was a good game all the way thru with the Jets opening 2-0 before hanging on for a 6-2 win.  Top hitter award was presented to Nolan Rattai and top defensive player was awarded to Tyler Scott.  Rattai left the game in the 5th inning with a serious lower leg injury.  On the mound Brody Burnett threw 4 great innings allowing 3 hits 3 BB’s and 2 K’s.  KJ Moreno held Okotoks tight with 1 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits 1 earned run with 2 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Jake Cook earned the save going 1 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit with 1 BB and 2 K’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led Blake Gallagher who was 1 for 4.  Zack Kunkel was 1 for 4 with a triple.  Jordan Dray was 1 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI’s.  Sean Robbins was 1 for 3 with a double.  Luxon Glor was 2 for 3.  Nolan Rattai rounded out the offense going 2 for 3 with a triple.

 

How the boys got to the Final:

The semi final started as a pitchers duel and ended in a slug fest with a 15-11 victory for the Jets over the Prospects.  Reilly O’Rourke started on the mound going 3 1/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 7 runs, 1 earned run with 1 BB and 4 K’s.  Carsen Perkins threw 2 innings allowing 6 hits, 4 runs with 2 K’s.  Jalen Lane finished things off going 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit with 1 BB and 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Scott going 1 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Blake Gallagher was 1 for 5 with a triple and 2 RBI’s.  Zach Kunkel was 3 for 5 with a double, HR and 3 RBI’s.  Brett Resch was 3 for 5 with an RBI.  Geordie McDougal was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Luxon Glor rounded out the offense going 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Jets lose a tough one 8-6 against North Shore!

Kamloops, BC –

It was a tough loss for the Jets 8-6 to the North Shore Twins.  The game was tight all the way thru the game before ending 8-6 after 6 innings on the time limit.  Josh Burgmann started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 7 hits, 6 earned runs with 4 BB’s and 5 K’s.  Brady Moxham threw the final 2 innings allowing 0 hits, 1 run with 3 BB’s and 3 K’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Scott who was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Blake Gallagher was 2 for 3.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 3.  Zach Kunkel was 3 for 4 with an RBI.  Ben Komonosky was 1 for 4 with a double and Geordie McDougall was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

The Jets will still play in the semi-final tomorrow at 11:45 am at Norbrock Stadium vs the #1 seed Edmonton Prospects.  The other semi final is Okotoks Dawgs vs North Shore Twins.

 

Jets open with a couple wins at BOW!

The Jets opened the Best of the West with a couple victories.  Game 1 saw the Jets win by a score of 9-0 over the Prairie Selects.  Branden Hatley started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 3 hits with 2 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Jake Cook finished things off throwing 2 innings clean.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Scott who was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Blake Gallagher was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Nolan Rattai was 3 for 4 with a triple.  Ben Komonosky was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Jordan Dray was 1 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI’s.  Brett Resch was 2 for 3 and Luxon Glor rounded out the offense going 1 for 2.

Game 2 saw the Jets come out on top again by a score of 8-0 over White Rock.  Jared Kennedy started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 1 hit with 1 BB and 7 K’s.  Brody Burnett finished the game going 1 inning allowing 1 hit.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Scott who was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s on a double.  Blake Gallagher was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 2 with a double.  Zach Kunkel was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Ben Komonosky was 1 for 3 with a double.  Jordan Dray was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Sean Robbins was 1 for 3.  Jordan Malainey was 2 for 2 with an RBI and Luxon Glor was 1 for 1 to round out the offense.

The Jets match up with the North Shore Twins at 2 pm.

It was another beautiful day in Southern Idaho with the Jets earning a split.  Game 1 saw the Jets lose to Twin Falls HS in the bottom of the 7th with a sac fly by a score of 2-1.  On the mound Reilly O’Rourke started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 unearned run with 2 BB’s.  Branden Hatley took the loss going 2 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 3 BB’s and 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Jordan Dray who was 1 for 3.  Brett Resch was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Sean Robbins was 2 for 3 to round out the offense. 

Game 2 saw the Jets come out on top 11-5 over Bonneville HS.  Bryce Fraser started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 2 hits, with 1 BB and 4 K’s.  Jalen Lane threw 2 innings allowing 2 hit, 4 unearned runs with 2 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Carsen Perkins threw 1 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 1 BB and 2 K’s.  Jake Cook finished things off throwing the final out.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Scott who was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Brett Resch was 1 for 5.  Zach Kunkel had a big game going 4 for 5 with 3 doubles and 3 RBI’s.  Nolan Rattai was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s.  Sean Robbins and Geordie McDougal were both 1 for 3.  Luxon Glor rounded out the offense going 3 for 4 with a HR, 2 RBI’s and 3 SB’s.

Pocatello, ID –

The Jets split on a beautiful day in Pocatello, Idaho losing game 1 5-4 and winning game 2 14-7.

Jared Kennedy started game 1 going 4 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run with 3 BB’s and 4 K’s.  Jake Cook took the loss going 2 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs with 1 BB and 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Brett Resch who was 2 for 4.  Blake Gallagher was 1 for 4.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 4.  Zach Kunkel was 1 for 3 with a double.  Jordan Malainey was 2 for 3 to round out the offense.  The Jets held a 4-1 lead late before falling 5-4.

Game 2 saw Brody Burnett get the start earning the win going 4 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 unearned run with 1 BB and 1 K.  KJ Moreno threw 1 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs with 2 BB’s.  Jalen Lane threw 1/3 of an inning with BB.  Carsen Perkins finished things off throwing the final inning.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Blake Gallagher who was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Zach Kunkel was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 4.  Jordan Dray was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s.  Jordan Malainey was 1 for 5.  Luxon Glor was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Sean Robbins rounded out the offense going 1 for 3.

The Jets will workout at Twin Falls HS tomorrow then tour College of Southern Idaho before playing Twins Falls HS and Bonneville HS on Saturday.

Jets take 2 close games from the Dawgs!

Lethbridge, AB –

It was a bit ugly at times but overall was a positive day for the Jets coming out on top 17-15 and 8-7 over a very solid PBA JV club.

Game 1 saw Reilly O’Rourke start on the 2 1/3 innings allwing 3 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned runs with 4 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Bryce Fraser earned the victory in relief going 2 2/3 innings allwing 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run with 2 BB’s and 2 K’s.  KJ Moreno had tough luck only going 2/3 of an inning allwing 4 hits with 8 runs against but all were unearned with 2 K’s and 1 BB.  Jalen Lane earned the save going 1 1/3 innings with 1 BB and 1 K to earn the save.

Offensively, the Jets had 22 hits overall with the Dawgs managing 13.  Brett Resch was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI’s.  Blake Gallagher was 3 for 5 with a double and 5 RBI’s.  Nolan Rattai was 3 for 4 with an RBI.  Zach Kunkel was 4 for 5 with 2 RBI’s.  Jordan Dray was 4 for 5 with 2 triples and 4 RBI’s.  Sean Robbins was 2 for 4 and Luxon Glor rounded out the offense going 3 for 5.

Game 2 was a well played game on both sides.  Jalen Lane started on the mound going 1 inning allowing 2 hits, 4 unearned runs with 1 K.  Branden Hatley threw 3 2/3 innings allwing 2 hits, 1 run with 4 K’s and 0 BB’s to earn the win.  Jake Cook threw the final 2 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits with 2 runs and 2 K’s to earn the save.

Next action is Thursday in Pocatello, Idaho vs Highland HS.

Jets drop a late one against PBA JV!

Lethbridge, AB It was a beautiful day in Lethbridge with the temp hovering around 20 degrees with little wind.  The Jets found themselves on the loosing end of a 5-4 ball game despite outhitting the Dawgs.  8 free passes and 7 errors proved to be the difference in the early season tilt. Jared Kennedy started on the mound going 3 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 unearned run with 4 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Brody Burnett threw the next 2 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 unearned runs with 2 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Carsen Perkins took the loss despite throwing well allwing 3 hits, 1 earned run with 2 BB’s. Offensively, the Jets were led by Blake Gallagher who was 1 for 4 with a double.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Brett Resch was 1 for 4 with a double.  Jordan Malainey was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Jordan Dray was 1 for 4.  Sean Robbins was 1 for 3.  Geordie McDougal was 1 for 4 and Luxon Glor was 1 for 3. Overall, no one was complaining with the great weather.  The Jets look to get better tomorrow with a 12 noon DH.

9th Annual Awards Banquet a tremendous success!

The 9th Annual Awards/Scholarship Fundraising Banquet was once again a tremendous success.  Marty Baceda led the evening again as our MC.  Former Blue Jay and 1998 World Series Champion Homer Bush talked about his childhood, professional baseball career, being a Jay as well as a World Series Champion Yankee and talked directly to our current Jets about work ethic and adversity.   Several Awards and Scholarships were handed out highlighted by the Reno Lizzi Scholarships.  Barbara & Yukio Kitagawa continued to inspire the entire Jets organization as they matched all donations at the Reno Lizzi table as well as Pennies for K’s to $20,000.00.   The 2015 banquet has set a new standard for years to come!!!
