14th Annual Awards & Scholarship Dinner!

Vauxhall, AB –

First of all thank you to everyone who traveled in the extremely cold weather to attend the 14th Annual Awards night.   Also a special thank you to all the sponsors and donors for leading the way with first class auction items.

Shaun Haney led the evening as our MC and did an excellent job. His Q & A was very professional and made the event very memorable for our featured speaker.  Former Toronto Blue Jays great and 16 year MLB veteran Rance Mulliniks did a tremendous job speaking telling stories and giving insight into past Blue Jays seasons/players and told several great stories about his 16 year MLB career. Several Awards and Scholarships were handed out highlighted by the Reno Lizzi Scholarships presented by Barbara & Yukio Kitagawa.

4 Jets early commit to top college programs!

The Vauxhall Academy is very proud to announce 4 Jets have committed to college baseball programs on scholarship for the 2020-2021 season.  All 4 players will finish up their spring in Vauxhall and will join their respective college programs in the fall of 2020.  We are very proud of ll of these young men and look forward to following their careers.  Stay tuned for additional Jets signing over the winter months.

LHP – Ben Adams – Ottawa, ON – has accepted an NCAA Division 1 St. John’s Red Storm in Queens, New York.  The Red Storm play in the very competitive Big East Conference and have been a national powerhouse over the last couple of the years. Thomas Little drafted in the 33rd round by the Philadelphia Phillies!

Vauxhall Academy Jets standout – LHP Thomas Little (Lethbridge, AB) was drafted in the 33rd round, 990th overall by the Philadelphia Phillies.  Thomas is a 2 year standout for the Jets.  Little has signed a Letter of Intent to NJCAA Division 2 National Champs Oklahoma Enid Jets.  Congrats Thomas!!

Vauxhall Academy Jets standout – LHP Adam Macko (Stony Plain, AB) was drafted in the 7th round, 216th overall by the Seattle Mariners.  Adam is a 3 year standout for the Jets also participating in the 2019 P15 New Balance International Series for the World Team as well as the Area Code Games.  Macko signed a Letter of Intent to Purdue University.  Congrats Adam!!

Jets alumni (2014/2016) Josh Burgmann was drafted in the 2019 MLB 1st year player draft out of the University of Washington Huskies. Former Jet RHP Josh Burgmann (Namaimo, BC) was drafted in the 5th round, 162nd overall by the Chicago Cubs.  Josh was a standout for the Jets for 3 years and has had a very successful career at the University of Washington Huskies.  Congrats Josh!!

Jets split with Okotoks on a cold Saturday at Jets!

Vauxhall, AB –

The Jets lost in extras in game 1 by a score of 8-5 and in game 2 the Jets walked off 4-3.

Game 1 saw Adam Macko go 4 innings allowing 2 hit, 2 unearned runs with 4 BB’s and 8 K’s.  Matt Wiggins threw 1 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs with 3 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Chase Florendine threw 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit, 3 runs, 2 earned runs with 4 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Tyler Boudreau threw the last inning with 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by John Vulcano who was 2 for 4.  Dayton Peters was 2 for 4.  Max Grant was 2 for 3 with a double.  Shayne Campbell was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI.  Carlin Dick rounded out the offense going 1 for 3.

Game 2 saw Dayton Peters head a line drive double to score Nick Gravel and walk off 4-3.  Thomas Little was outstanding going 6 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs with 5 K’s and 3 BB’s.  Evan O’Toole got the win going 1 inning allowing 1 hit, 1 run with 2 K’s and 1 BB.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Dayton Peters who was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Shayne Campbell was 1 for 3.  Ty Wevers was 1 for 3 with a double and Josh Malainey was 1 for 3 to round out the offense.

The Jets now travel to Okotoks for a 12 noon DH Sunday.

Jets win the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic for 1st time in history!

Las Vegas, NV – 

What a day of baseball on so many fronts.  The Jets opened the day as the #2 seed in the Desert Classic behind only Bishop Gorman HS.  The semi final match up was against a very good Liberty, NV team facing their ace.

Jets come out on top by a score of 2-0.  Thomas Little started on the mound and was absolutely dominant going 6 innings allowing his first hit in the 6th with 2 BB’s and 6 K’s.  Maddux Mateychuk earned the save allowing a walk and stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 7th.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Logan Grant was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  John Vulcano was 1 for 4.  Shayne Campbell was 1 for 3.  Dayton Peters was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Josh Malainey was 1 for 2.  Evan O’Toole was 1 for 2 with a triple and Logan Domanski was for 1 for 3.

The victory pushed the Jets against Ventura, CA after they beat Bishop Gorman 5-1.  Tyler Boudreau started on the mound going 2 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run with 1 BB.  Evan O’Toole earned the win going 4 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 0 earned runs with 3 BB’s and 5 K’s. Chase Florendine earned the save going 1 inning with 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by John Vulcano was 2 for 3.  Max Grant was 2 for 3 with a double.  Dayton Peters was 2 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBI’s.  Ty Wevers rounded out the offense going 1 for 3.

The Championship is the 1st time the Jets history (13 years) winning the Desert Classic.

Next up is the Best of the West Tournament in Kamloops, BC.

Opening day 2019!

Lethbridge, AB – 

It was a sunny but cool day at Lloyd Nolan Yard to open up 2019.  Game 1 saw the Jets take on the Prospect Academy winning by a score of 9-3.  Adam Macko started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 1 hit with 1 BB and 5 K’s.  Matt Wiggins threw the following 2 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 unearned run with 4 K’s and 0 BB’.  Levi Abbott finished things off going 2 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs with 4 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by John Vulcano who was 2 for 4 with a triple.  Max Grant was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Shayne Campbell was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Ty Wevers and Jackson Clemett rounded out the offense going 1 for 3 and 1 for 2.

Game 2 saw the Jets and PBA JV battle to a 4-4 tie.  Chase Florendine started throwing 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 earned run with 3 BB’s and 1 K.  Tyler Boudreau threw 2 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs with 3 BB’s and 1 K.  Reece Keller earned the victory going 2 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits with 1 BB and 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Josh Malainey who was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Dayton Peters was 2 for 4.  Max Grant was 1 for 3 with a double and Logan Grant was 2 for 2 with an RBI to round out the offense.

The Jets now travel to Lethbridge Monday to play a 9 inning game vs PBA at 2:30 pm.  Again at Lloyd Nolan Yard.

Keith Miller led the evening again as our MC and did an excellent job.  Former Toronto Blue Jays coach Tim Leiper did a tremendous job speaking telling stories and giving insight into past Blue Jays seasons/players and gave us a glimpse of the future. Several Awards and Scholarships were handed out highlighted by the Reno Lizzi Scholarships.  Barbara & Yukio Kitagawa were unable to attend due to illness and were certainly missed.  We wish Yukio a speedy recovery.
