Jets sweep to take series from University of Calgary

Vauxhall, AB –

The Jets bat came alive with a convincing DH sweep of the U of C Dinos by scores of 17-5 and 13-6. 

In Game 1 Logan Seifrit was dominate on the mound going 3 innings allowing 0 hits and 0 runs with 1 BB and 7 K’s.  Anthony McKinley threw 1 inning of relief allowing 2 BB’s and 1 K.  Luke Whelpton struggled with command but battled threw 2 innings allowing 5 runs on 9 K’s and 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Dan Moro who was 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored.  Chris Thibideau was 1 for 5 with a double, an RBI and run scored.  Guillaume Gingras was 2 for 4 with a double, 4 RBI’s anda run scored.  Mitch McGeein was 2 for 4 with a HR, 3 RBI’s and 1 BB.  Konner Lutz was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored.  Matt Benn was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Jason Field was 1 for 4 with a run scored.  Jose Calderon was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.  Jager Toffan rounded out the offense with a big day going 4 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. 

Game 2 saw the Jets come out on top again.  Zach Mayo start and was dominate threw 4 innings allowing 1 hit, 0 runs 3 BB’s and 5 K’s. Jesse Borden threw 2 inning of relief allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, with 1 BB and 2 K’s. Brandon Radmacher threw 2 innings allowing 4 hits, 4 runs, 5 BB’s and 2 K’s. Chris Thibideau threw the final inning allowing 2 hits with a BB.  Offensively, the Jets were led  by Dan Moro who was 2 for 5 with a run scored.  Jason Field was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Guillaume Gingras was 1 for 5 with an RBI and run scored. Mitch McGeein was 3 for 4 with a HR, 4 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.  Konner Lutz was 2 for 3 with a run scored.  Matt Benn was 1 for 5 with 3 RBI’s.  Devan Thomas was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s.  Travis Wallace was 1 for 4 with a HR, RBI and run scored.  Jager Toffan rounded out the offense going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. 

The Jets record is now 4-2 overall.  Next action is Friday night at 8:30 pm vs Okotoks in Edmonton, Alberta

Long ball hurts the Jets in lose to the U of C

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB Jets lost to the University of Calgary Dinos by a score of 12-6 on golf tournament Friday.  The day began with the Jets and Scotiabank hosting a fundraising scramble golf tournament at Vauxhall Golf Club.  The event raised just over $10,000.00 – thanks to everyone who attended and sponsored the event. 

The Jets got behind early as the U of C  jumped out to a 7-0 lead the Jets never recovered.   The Dinos swung the bat very well with 4 HR’s on the day.  Tanner Spencer started on the mound going 3 innings allowing, 8 hits, 7 earned runs, 2 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Luc Hebert threw the next 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Nick Stobbe finished off the game going 2innings allowing 1 hit, 1 earned run 1 BB and 1 K.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Daniel Moro who was 3 for 4 with a double. Konner Lutz was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Mitch McGeein was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Guilluame Gingras connected with his first HR going 1 for 3. Matt Benn was 1 for 4 with a double, RBI and run scored.  Jason Field was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and a run scored.  Jose Calderon was 1 for 1 with a run scored.

Former Jet Mark Baigent got the win for the Dinos.

Thelose puts the Jets at 2-2 this fall.  Next action is tomorrow at 11 am at Jets Stadium.

Jets take 2 from Badlands Academy!

Oyen, AB –

The VAB Jets got on the winning track with 2 convincing victories over the Badlands Baseball Academy Badgers by scores of 12-2 and 14-0. 

The Jets out hit the Badgers on the day 25-5  in front a very good crowd in Oyen. 

Game 1 pitching line:

The doubleheader sweep pushes the Jets record to 2-1 overall in the fall.  Next action is Friday night after the 5th Annual Scotiabank Golf Tournament vs University of Calgary Dinos at 5 pm. 

** The Jets had some professional training on Saturday to get ready for the game as former Jet – Steven Inch (2007-2009) and 6th round Phillies prospect threw intrasquad to the Jets.  He is getting ready to head back to Clearwater, Florida for Instructional League

Jets lose 2-0 in a pitchers duel with a vetran PBA group!

The VAB lost its home opener 2-0 to the Collegiate PBA Dawgs in front of a packed house on the 2nd Annual Spirit Week Game at Jets Stadium. 

There was not much offense provided by either side with the Jets leading with 4 hits to the PBA’s 3 hits.  Tanner Spencer started on the mound going 2 IP, 1 run, 1 earned run, 1 hit, 2 BB’s and 5 K’s.  Zach Mayo threw 1 2/3 IP with 3BB’s.  Logan Seifrit threw 1 2/3 with 2 K’s.  Luke Whelpton threw 1 clean inning.  Luc Hebert threw 1 inning allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 1 K.  Jesse Borden threw 1 clean inning with 2 K’s.  Zach Yandeau threw 1 inning with a 1BB. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Mitch McGeein who was 2 for 4 with a double.  Jager Toffan and Devan Thomas chipped in with 1 hit each.  

** Correction to the schedule – next action for the Jets is Sunday September 11th at 1pm.  The Jets will be visiting Oyen, AB to take on the Badlands Badgers. 

6th Annual Scotiabank/VAB Golf Tournament combined with U of C Series!

Vauxhall, AB –

The fall baseball season in Vauxhall is an exciting time as the newcomers get their first look at what Southern Alberta has to offer.

The fall opens up on Tuesday September 6th vs PBA at 1:30 pm celebrating VHS and VES Spirit week.  A crowd of well over 400 people took in the event last year.   Come out and support the Jets and both the Vauxhall High School and Elementary school.

The VAB Golf Weekend will be exciting for all supporters of the Academy.  The weekend schedule is as follows:

Friday September 16th – Scotiabank/VAB Golf Tournament

Where: Vauxhall Golf Course

12 noon – Registration/Lunch

1 pm – Tee Off Time

4:30 pm – All golfers travel to Jets Stadium for a Steak Supper and enjoy the University of Calgary vs Jets 9 inning tilt.

5 pm – U of C vs Jets

2011/2012 Roster Announced!

The 2011/2012 roster has been announced by Head Coach & Director of Baseball Operations, Les McTavish.  The roster consists of 22 student-athletes from 6 provinces.  The new crop of promising Jets report to Vauxhall on August 28th with several days of meetings, conditioning and practicing prior to their opening game during VHS Spirit Week September 6th at 1:30 pm.

Hendriks gets drafted by Philadelphia Phillies!

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB is very proud to announce that the 2nd Jet was drafted in the 1st year player draft –  3B/1B – Brendan Hendriks – Cochrane, Alberta was drafted today by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 40th round – 1231 pick overall.  Hendriks has committed to attend NCAA Division 1 University of San Fransico in the fall.  The Phillies will follow Hendriks progression throughout the summer.

The VAB is very proud to announce that LHP – Ben Dartnell – East St. Paul, Manitoba was drafted today by the Boston Red Sox in the 34th round – 1042 pick overall.  Dartnell has committed to attend NCAA Division 1 Eastern Michigan University in the fall and will now have the decision to sign a professional contract with the Red Sox or attend University.

Jets blank PBF 10-0!

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB Jets got back on the winning track behind some great pitching by Zach Mayo and timely hitting.  Mayo threw a 4 inning no-hitter with 1 BB and 4 K’s.  The game was called after 4 innings due to rain.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Travis Wallace who was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Brendan Hendriks returned from Team Canada with a big 2 run HR.  Konner Lutz, Mitch McGeein and Curtis Mazurkewich rounded out the offense with 1 hit each and an RBI.

Next action is slated for 5 pm vs Butte Miners.   The win puts the Jets record to 1-1 in the tournament and 20-10-1 overall.
