Jets fall behind early and end up losing 9-6

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB Jets found themselves behind early again and couldn’t quite come back.  The Jets fell by a final score of 9-6 with the tying run at the plate in the 9th inning.   Luke Whelpton started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 4 hits, 6 runs, 4 BB’s and 1  Nick Stobbe threw the next 2 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs with 1 BB and 3 K’s.  Mitch McGeein and Jose Calderon threw a scoreless inning and Chris Thibideau threw 2 solid inning allowing 2 hits and 1 K.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Jager Toffan who was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and a solo HR.  Mitch McGeein was 2 for 2 with an RBI.  Matt Benn, Jose Calderon and Chris Thibideau rounded out the offence with 1 hit each.

The loss pushes the Jets record to 5-2 overall.

Jets split to open home schedule with a split against U of C

The VAB Jets opened their home slate vs University of Calgary Dinos on a cool and rainy weekend.  Game 1 saw the Jets get behind 4-0 early following a tough start from Zach Mayo.  Luc Hebert came in and was outstanding going 4 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 0 runs with 3 K’s and 2 BB’s to earn the victory.  Jesse Borden earned the save going 2 innings allowing 1 hit with 2 BB’s a K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Konner Lutz who was 2 for 4 with a 3 run HR.  Mitch McGeein was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Chris Thibideau was 2 for 2 with a run scored.  Dan Moro, Matt Benn and Devan Thomas pitched in with 1 hit each.

Game 2 saw the Jets again get down early with another tough start to the game.  Tanner Spencer took the loss going 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 5 runs but only 2 earned with 6 BB’s and 3 K’s.  Brandon Radmacher was outstanding out of the bullpen going 4 innings allowing 0 hits, 3 BB’s and 4 K’s.  Devan Thomas finished the game with 1 inning and 2 K’s.  The offence was led by Konner Lutz, Jason Field and Mitch McGeein who all had 1 hit each for a double.

The split pushes the Jets record to 4-1 overall.  Next action is tomorrow at 12 noon vs U of C Dinos @ Jets Stadium weather permitting.

Jets finish off a successful weekend!

Lethbridge, AB –

The VAB Jets finished off a successful weekend with a 9-5 victory over the PBA JV team.  The day consisted of many positional players getting their chance on the mound for both clubs.  Konner Lutz, Jose Calderon, Travis Wallace and Mitch McGeein took the mound for the Jets with Jose Calderon earning the victory.

Offensively, the Jets were led by by Konner Lutz who was 3 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.  Travis Wallace and Matt Benn also added 2 hits each.  Benn had 3 RBI’s and Wallace pitched in with 2 RBI’s.  Mitch McGeein and Dan Moro rounded out the offense with a hit each.

The victory pushes the Jets record to 3-0 overall this spring.   Next action is next weekend vs University of Calgary Dinos at Jets Stadium in Vauxhall.

Jets take 2 to open the spring season!

Lethbridge, AB –

The Jets opened the 2012 spring season with a come from behind victory over the Okotoks Dawgs Academy by a score of 6-4.  The Jets found themselves behind early by a score of 4-0 and came from behind to earn the victory by a score of 6-4.    Zach Mayo started on the mound going 2 inning allowing 2 hits, 2 unearned runs with 5 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Tanner Spencer earned the victory going 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB and 1 K.  Jesse Borden was solid in 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 0 runs with 3 K’s.  Nick Stobbe earned the save going the final inning with 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Matt Benn who was 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Jose Calderon was also 2 for 3 with a double.  Moro, Field, Thibideau, Wallace, Field and Lutz rounded out the offense with 1 hit each.

Game 2 saw the Jets get behind early again but came back to earn a convincing 16-10 slugfest vs a strong PBA JV club.   Brandon Radmacher started on the mound going 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 4 runs and 2 unearned runs with 2 K’s and 1 BB.  Luc Hebert threw 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs with 2 K’s.  Luke Whelpton threw 2 inning with 1 hit with 1 K and 1 BB.  Chris Thibideau rounded out the offense with 1 inning with 5 hits and 4 runs.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Chris Thibideau who was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI’s.  Matt Benn was 2 for 2 with 3 BB’s and a 3 run HR.  Dan Moro was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and Travis Wallace also added 2 hits. 

Next action for the Jets is tomorrow at 2 pm vs PBA JV.

Jets open this weekend in Lethbridge!

 

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB will open its spring season this coming weekend in Lethbridge with 3 games vs PBA and Okotoks.  The Jets will be a bit short handed as three Jets standouts are in Florida with the Canadian National Junior Team.  Guillaume Gingras, Logan Seifrit and Jager Toffan will be competing against professional teams, Dutch National Team and St. Pete JC as well as the Toronto Blue Jays.  Good Luck Boys!!

Jets take 2 from Badlands Academy!

Vauxhall, AB –

The Jets swept the Badlands Academy on a beautiful fall day in Vauxhall by scores of 6-2 and 10-5. 

Game 1 saw Brandon Radmacher dominate threw 5 innings allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, 6 K’s and 0 BB.  Tanner Spencer earned the save going 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 2 unearned, 1 BB and 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Guillaume Gingras who was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Jager Toffan was 1 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base.  Mitch McGeein was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Anthony McKinley was 2 for 2 with a double, 2 RBI’s and a stolen base. 

Game 2 saw Luke Whelpton start and earn the victory going 4 innings allowing 2 hits, 3 unearned runs, 6 K’s and 1 BB.  Nick Stobbe threw 1 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs scored, 2 K’s and 3 BB’s.  Jesse Borden threw the final 1 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 3 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were ledy by Jager Toffan who was 2 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored and stolen base.  Anthony McKinley was 1 for 2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.  Konner Lutz was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s.  Mitch McGeein was 1 for 3 with a 3 run HR.  Travis Wallace was 2 for 2 with a double, 2 runs scored and a stolen base.  Matt Benn and Jose Calderon rounded out the offense with a hit a piece and Calderon pitched in with 2 RBI’s.

Jets lose a close one to PBA!

Lethbridge, AB –

The VAB Jets lost a tight one by a score of 4-1 to the Prairie Baseball Academy.  A 3 run 5th inning ended up being the difference in the contest.  The Jets out hit the Dawgs 7-4 but a a few walks and a couple of costly errors proved to the the difference.

Zach Mayo started on the mound going 4 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned runs, 6 K’s and 5 BB’s.  Chris Thibideau threw a very solid 1 1/3 innings allowing 0 hits and 0 runs.  Logan Seifrit held the Dawgs at bay going the final 2 innings with 3 K’s and 0 hits. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by JG Weeks who had a very productive day at the plate going 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Dan Moro, Konner Lutz and Anthony McKinley pitched in with singles and Jager Toffan added a double.

Next action for the Jets is tomorrow @ Jets Stadium vs Badlands Academy with a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.

Jets finish road trip with quality game vs CSI!

Boise, Idaho –

The VAB Jets saw a late lead slip away vs the College of Southern Idaho with 2 costly errors that eventually ended the game in a 10-8 score for CSI.

Brandon Radmacher started on the mound for the Jets going 4 innings allowing 9 hits, 6 runs, 2 BB’s and 1 K.  Logan Seifrit threw 2 very solid innings allowing 1 hit, 1 K and 1 BB with 0 runs.  Tanner Spencer took the loss despite only allowing 1 earned run going 1 2/3 innings allowing 4 hits,  3 BB’s and 1 K.  Zach Yandeau rounded out the pitching  going 1  1/3 iinnings allowing a solo HR. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Dan Moro who was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI.  Mitch McGeein was 1 for 4 with a solo HR.  Matt Benn was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored.  Konner Lutz was 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and 2 runs scored.  Guillaume Gingras was 1 for 5 with a double and 3 RBI’s.  Jason Field rounded out the offense going 1 for 3 with a single. 

The Jets were also able to visit the Boise State University Campus.  The players were treated to a tour of the football facility, locker room, weight, etc. 

Next action for the Jets is next Saturday vs PBA in Lethbridge.

Jets come out flat and lose 2 to Treasure Valley, Oregon!

Boise, Idaho –

TheVAB Jets came out flat and battled from behind most of the day losing 7-0 and12-8 to Treasure Valley Junior College from Oregon.  Game 1 saw Luke Whelpton start on the mound going 4 innings allowing 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 K’s and 6 K’s. Nick Stobbe threw the final 3 innings allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 K and 5 BB’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Dan Moro whowas 1 for 3. Jager Toffan was 1 for 3.  Konner Lutz was 1 for 2 and Jason Field was 1 for 2 to round out the offense. 

Game 2 saw some more offense but the Jets could not hold TVCC late in the game.  Luc Hebert started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 runs, 1 earned run, 1 K and 3 K’s.  Jesse Borden went 2 innings allowing 8 hits, 9 runs, 7 eared runs, 1 K and 5 BB. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Anthony McKinley who was 3 for 3 with a big 2 run HR, double, 5 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  JagerToffan was1 for 3 with a doule, run scored and RBI.  Devon Thomas was1 for3 with an RBI.  Mitch McGeein was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Jose Calderon rounded out the offense going 1 for 4 with a run scored. 

The 2 loses puts the Jets record this fall to 8-8-1 overall.  The Jets have now played 11 of their 17 games vs college baseball teams.  Next action is tomorrow in Boise vs a very tough College of Southern Idaho team.  Former Jet Ben Douglas (2008/2009) will be suited up for the Eagles

Jets play well to open up in Boise!

Boise, Idaho –

The VAB Jets rode the bus for 15 hours over 2 days, visited College of Southern Idaho Campus/Baseball Facility and finally played a good Idaho Cubs baseball team.  The Jets went down 2-0 after 1 inning giving up a solo HR and an unearned run.  The Jets chipped away with 1 run in the 5th and 1 in the 6th before the game ending in a 2-2 tie after 8 innings.

Zach Mayo started on the mound throwing 7 great innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run, 7 K’s and 5 BB’s.  Tanner Spencer threw a scoreless inning in the 7th.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Matt Benn who was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Travis Wallace was 1 for 1 with a run scored and Jason Field was 1 for 3 with an RBI and run scored.  Field lined out in top of the 8th inning on a diving play by the right fielder with a runner in scoring position. 

Next action the Jets will face Treasure Valley College from Ontario, Oregon.
