1st Annual Academy Awards and Fundraising Dinner a Tremendous Success!

Thank you to the many volunteers, students, school staff, Board of Directors, and Academy players for making the evening a huge success.

Overall, over 300 people attended the event. Keynote speakers of Jeff Zimmerman and Stubby Clapp illustrated to the sell out crowd why they are truly inspirational professional athletes. The evening raised just over $20,000.00 and we thank everyone who supported the evening as well as all who donated items for auction. A special thanks as well to Marty Baceda from Global Sports for providing the entertainment as our Master of Ceremonies!

See you this spring!

Tufts to become a Reiver

Alex Tufts; from Nova Scotia, Canada; has committed to attend school and play baseball for Iowa Western Community College next year. Tufts currently attends school at Vauxhall Academy in Alberta, Canada. In 2005 and 2006 he competed for the Novia Scotia Youth Select team in the Canada Cup. Alex also attended the Mizuno Junior Elite Camp in 2005. Tuft’s currently throws in the mid-upper 80’s and has improved greatly since enrolling at Vauxhall Academy and concentrating on his development in baseball. In the Fall season he had a record of 2-0; throwing 30 innings accumulating 35 strikeouts with only 16 walks.

Coach Rardin had this to say, “Alex will come to Iowa Western Community College as a real sleeper. Novia Scotia is one of the smallest provinces in Canada; and it’s hard for players from that area to get good looks from American colleges. He’s a low ¾ guy with a lot of late life on his fastball and the ability to locate his off-speed pitches. He’s pretty good right now; but his best days are certainly ahead of him as he continues to get more repetitions and plays more baseball. I’m excited about the things he will be able to do for us and himself in the future”.

The Iowa Western Community College baseball staff would like to welcome Alex and all of our recruits to the program for next year.

Vauxhall Academy of Baseball 2008/2009 Recruiting is Now Underway!

Interested student-athletes and/or parents are encouraged to fill out the recruiting information form and email/fax it to Coach McTavish at [email protected] or 403-654-4296 (fax). An information form is also available.

The interest has been tremendous to date and with the continued successes of our inaugural season we expect to again to field a very competitive roster of academic and athlete athletes.

Please check back to the website for upcoming information sessions. We are encouraging athletes and their families to visit Vauxhall and see the program in full action. We feel this is more beneficial than information sessions as it gives athletes a chance to see first hand our athletes in a classroom, baseball development, agility, and lifting program.

We continue to add additional staff, development tools, approaches and ideas to this ongoing process.

We expect the 2008/2009 roster to be complete towards the end of the spring so contact soon if you are interested.
