Weekend Schedule Changes!

Vauxhall, AB –

The DH in Okotoks scheduled for Friday April 30th, 2010 has been cancelled due to poor weather conditions.  The Saturday May 1st DH in Vauxhall will be decided Friday afternoon whether the field will be playable or not.

3 More Jets Heading to play College Baseball!

3 More Jets have made committments to play college baseball in the fall of 2010 – overall this makes 7 Jets so far!   Simmonds, Barry and Clark join 4 other Jets who have committed to schools so far.  See below for details:

C/OF – Luke Barry – Swift Current, SK – has committed to attend Canadian College Powerhouse – Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs in Lethbridge, AB.  The Dawgs play in a very tough Canadian College Baseball Conference.  The Dawgs have won the League Championships 5 years in a row.  For more details on PBA: www.prairiebaseball.com

RHP – Derek Grubel – Lethbridge, AB – signed a National Letter of Intent with the NJCAA Division 1 Muscatine Community College Cardinals in Muscatine, Iowa.  The Cardinals play in the very challenging ICACC conference.  For more details on Muscatine College: http://www.eicc.edu/athletics/mcc_baseball/index.html.

The 2009-2010 college committment campaign starts off with a bang as 2nd year standout Shane Zimmer has committed to Canisius College Griffins in Buffalo, NY.  Zimmer is just coming back from ACL surgery last May.

Jets split with PBA!

Vauxhall, AB –

The VAB split a DH at home vs PBA Jr Dawgs.  Game 1 saw the Jets lose by a score of 10-6 and won game 2 by a score of 8-1 to take the weekend series 3-1 and overall series 6-1. 

Game 1 was a tale of free passes – the Jets walked or hit 15 batters and proved to be costly.  Taylor Simmonds started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 3 hits, 5 earned run, 6 K’s and 9 BB’s.  Chad Hodges threw well in relief going 3 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB and 1 K.  Victor Caruso threw the final inning allowing 1 hit, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 1 K and 5 BB’s.  Offensively, the Jets were ledy by Luke Barry who was 1 for 4 with an SB.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 3 with a grand slam HR.  Greg Adams was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Brant Hittel was 1 for 4.  Matt Clark and Nick Koh also pitched in with a hit each. 

Game 2 saw a dominate start on the mound for Jets LHP Brody McDonald.  He threw 7 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 8 K’s and 4 BB’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Luke Barry who was 1 for 3 with a double and RBI.  Ben Douglas had a huge day going 4 for 4 with a double, 2 HR’s, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  Greg Adam was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Curtis Mazurkewich was 1 for 3 with a double and RBI.  Brant Hittel was 1 for 3 with an SB and 2 runs scored.  Nick Koh was 1 for 3 with an RBI. 

The split pushes the Jets overall record to 16-6.  Next action is Friday April 30th against the Okotoks Dawgs Academy.  Gametime is a 4 pm (DH) at the beautiful Seaman Stadium.

Jets take the DH vs Dawgs!

The VAB Jets swept a DH from the PBA Dawgs JV on Saturday.  The Jets were up 8-1 going into the 6th and the Dawgs rallied late.  Game 1 saw Paul Schaak start on the mound and going 6 innings earning the victory giving up 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 6 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Victor Caruso threw the final inning allowing 2 hits, 3 runs, 2 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 3 with an SB and run scored.  Luke Barry was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI’s and run scored.  Ben Douglas was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 2.  Matt Clark was 1 for 3 with a HR and 2 runs scored.  Blair Balg was 1 for 2 with a run scored. 

Game 2 saw the Jets down 7-1 in the 5th inning before Ben Douglas tied the game with a solo HR in the bottom of the 7th and scored the winning run in extra innings (bottom of the 9th).  Justin Davies started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned runs, 7 K’s and 3 BB’s.  Ben Douglas earned the victor going 5 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 6 K’s and 0 BB’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Ben Douglas who was 2 for 5 with a HR and 2 runs scored.  Shane Zimmer was 3 for 4 with a HR, 2 doubles, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 5 with a run scored.  Greg Adams 3 for 5 with a HR, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  Matt Clark was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and Nick Koh was 1 for 3 with an RBI. 

The 2 wins pushes the Jets record 15 – 6 overall.  Next action tomorrow against the same PBA Dawgs at 1 pm at Jets Stadium.

Bozeman Round Robin Tournament Schedule Announced!

The round robin tournament schedule May 14-16th, 2010 has been announced.  The tournament is in Bozeman, Montana at Heros Park (Home of the Bozeman Bucks).

Jets take to from the Cardinals!

Cochrane, AB –

The VAB Jets won 2 games against the Edmonton Cardinals in Cochrane, AB by scores of 7-3 and 21-1.  Game 1 saw a well played game on both sides with the score close until the Jets broke it open in the bottom of the 8th.  Paul Schaak started on the mound going 5 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 9 K’s and 1 BB.  Justin Davies threw well in relief going 3 innings allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 K’s and 1 BB.  Victor Caruso slammed the door again threw a great 9 inning with 3 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Brant Hittel who was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored.  Ben Douglas was 2 for 4 with a big HR, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  Brendan Hendriks was 3 for 4 with a HR, 3 RBI’s and a run scored.  Matt Clark was 1 for 4. 

Game 2 saw the Jets score early and often against a younger group from the Cardinals.  Brody McDonald started on the mound going 4 innings, 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 7 K’s and 1 BB.  Chad Hodges threw 1 inning with 2 K’s and 1 BB.  Blair Balog threw the final 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 3 K’s and 0 BB’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Greg Adams who was 2 for 5 with a 2 run HR, 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.  Ben Douglas was 2 for 6 with a 3 run HR, 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.  Shane Zimmer was 2 for 3 with 2 HR’s, 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.  Brendan Hendriks was 3 for 5 with a 3 run HR, 4 RBI’s, 2 runs scored and a double.  Marc St. Jean was 2 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  Kym Barthel, Curtis Mazurkewich, Luke Barry and Nick Koh all pitched in with a hit each.

The 2 wins pushes the Jets overall record to 13-6 overall.  Next action is next weekend in Vauxhall @ Jets Stadium vs Prairie Baseball Academy.

Weekend Schedule Changes for April 17th/18th!!!

Due to very poor weather conditions and massive amounts of snow the VAB-Edmonton Cardinals schedule has changed.

Both Rodeo North and South diamonds are located in the Glenbow Subdivision, between the Safeway and Highway #22.

Access from Highway 22 heading North from TransCanada Highway:

Cross over Bow River, take first right onto Griffin Road. Take first left and drive past Safeway. At McDonald’s turn right into Curling rink parking lot and park. Walk down the hill to the diamonds.

Access from Highway 1A heading west from Calgary:

At first set of lights (at bottom of big hill) 4th Avenue, turn left. Cross railroad tracks, turn right onto Railway Street. Turn left onto xx Road then right after the curling rink and park in the lot. Walk down hill to the diamonds.

Jets split a pair of 1 run games over the final 2 days!

Las Vegas, NV –

The Vauxhall Academy Jets concluded their 12 day road trip with a pair of 1 run games at the Bishop Gorman Easter Classic.  On Friday night the Jets won by a score of 13-12 in a hard fought battle over Menlo HS, CA (San Fransico, CA).   Brody McDonald started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, 0 BB’s with 4 K’s.  Brendan Hendriks earned the victory in 1 inning of relief allowing 2 hits, 5 runs, 0 K’s and 4 BB’s.  Ben Douglas threw the following 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 2 runs, 1 K and 5 BB’s.  Victor Caruso came in to slam the door in the 9th inning facing a very dangerous 2, 3, 4, 5 in the line-up with a pair of K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were ledy by Kym Barthel who was 2 for 4 with a double, triple and 2 RBI’s.  Chayse Marion was 1 for 3 with 3 runs scored.  Shane Zimmer was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Ben Douglas was 1 for 3 with a 3 run HR.  Luke Barry was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.  Blair Balog rounded out the offense going 2 for 4 with a double, triple, 4 RBI’s and a run scored. 

The win matched the Jets up with Bishop Monogue HS, NV (Reno, NV) on a short turn around at 9 am Saturday morning.  Taylor Simmonds started on the mound taking the loss going 3 innings allowing 3 hits, 6 runs, 4 earned runs, 2 K’s and 6 BB’s.  Blair Balog threw 3 solid innings allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 K’s and 1 BB.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 2 with a run scored and SB.  Brant Hittel was 1 for 4 with a run scored and RBI.  Ben Douglas was 1 for 2 with an RBI and run scored.  Shane Zimmer was 2 for 3 with a triple, RBI and run scored.  Brody McDonald was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Nick Koh was 1 for 3 to round out the offense. 

The Jets ended the road trip with 4 wins and 4 losses overall playing teams from LA (CA), San Fransico (CA), Reno (CA), Fallon (NV), Surrey (BC), Victoria (BC), Kelowna (BC) and Lanely (BC).  The team attended the UNLV – Texas Tech baseball game in which former Jets – Jay Johnson and Brandon Petite – play for Texas Tech. 

The Jets overall record is 11-5 and next action is Saturday April 17th vs Edmonton Cardinals. 

** The Jets would also like to wish 3B/1B – Chayse Marion and RHP – Levi Westerlund good luck in their quest to make the Canadian National Junior Team.  The team is playing games April 15-25th in Orlando, Florida.

Errors cost the Jets in the winner bracket!

The VAB Jets lost a hard fought battle to San Benito, CA by a score of 8-3.  The Jets committed 4 very costly errors  and ended up allowing 6 unearned runs against a very good San Benito club.  Paul Schaak started on the mound going 5 quality innings allowing 4 hits, 5 runs, 2 earned runs, 6 K’s and 4 BB’s.  Justin Davies threw 2/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits, 3 unearned runs, 1 BB and 1 K.  Victor Caruso threw the final 1 1/3 innings allowing 0 hits and 0 runs. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Luke Barry who was 1 for 4.  Chayse Marion was 1 for 2 with a run scored.  Ben Douglas was 3 for 3 with a double, RBI and run scored.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 3 with a double and RBI.  Curtis Mazurewich was 1 for 3 with a double. 

The loss pushes the Jets record to 1 – 1 in the Bishop Gorman Classic and overall 10 – 5.  The Jets play Friday vs Menlo, CA at 5 pm at Hadland Park.
