Westerlund committs to play for Midland

Vauxhall, AB –

Another Jet has committed to play college baseball in the US.   RHP – Levi Westerlund – Oyen, AB – has committed to attend  NJCAA Division 1 Midland College Chaps in Midland, Texas.    The Chaps play in the very tough Western Junior College Athletic Conference.  For more details on Midland: http://www.midland.edu/athletics/baseball/

LHP – Paul Schaak – Winkler, MB – has committed to attend  NJCAA Division 1 College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles in Twin Falls, Idaho.  Schaak follows 6 other Jets who are currently playing with the Golden Eagles (Morrill (2007-2008, Anderson 2007-2008, Craswell 2008, Paquin 2008, Bilodeau 2008-2009, Vavra 2008-2009).  The Golden Eagles play in the very challenging Scenic West Conference.  For more details on CSI: http://athletics.csi.edu/news/2009/11/4/BB_1104093045.aspx?path=baseball

RHP – Derek Grubel – Lethbridge, AB – signed a National Letter of Intent with the NJCAA Division 1 Muscatine Community College Cardinals in Muscatine, Iowa.  The Cardinals play in the very challenging ICACC conference.  For more details on Muscatine College: http://www.eicc.edu/athletics/mcc_baseball/index.html.

The 2009-2010 college committment campaign starts off with a bang as 2nd year standout Shane Zimmer has committed to Canisius College Griffins in Buffalo, NY.  Zimmer is just coming back from ACL surgery last May. 

OF – Shane Zimmer – St. Albert, AB – signed a National Letter of Intent with the NCAA Division 1 Canisius College Griffs in Buffalo, NY.  The Griffs play in the MAAC conference.  For more details on Canisius College: http://www.gogriffs.com

Jets drop the rubber match!

Vauxhall, AB –

THe VAB Jets dropped game 3 of the series by a score of 9-8.  A great play by the Prospects third baseman ended the game with the tying run on 3rd base.  The Jets committed 6 errors and allowed 10 BB’s in the loss. 

Blair Balog started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run, 3 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Victor Caruso threw 1 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 5 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Brody McDonald threw 1 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 0 earned runs, 1 K and 2 BB’s.  Ben Douglas threw 2 innings allowing 0 runs, 2 K’s with a BB.  Brendan Hendriks threw the final inning allowing 0 runs, 0 hits with 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Ben Douglas was 1 for 4 with a double.  Shane Zimmer was 1 for 1 with 4 BB’s and a run scored.  Brant Hittel was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and a HR.  Matt Clark was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Marc St. Jean was 1 for 1 with an RBI. 

The loss pushes the Jets record to 7 – 2.  Next action is Thursday April 4th in Kamloops, BC at the Best of the West Tournament.

Jets split with the Prospects!

Vauxhall, AB –

The Jets split with the Edmonton Prospects on a beautiful afternoon.  Game 1 saw the Jets win in 5 innings by a score of 16-6 and game 2 saw a good Prospects team come out on top by a score of 10-7. 

Taylor Simmonds started on the mound and went 4 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned runs, 2 K’s and 4 BB’s.  Marc St. Jean threw the final 1/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 3 for 4 with 5 runs scored and a stolen base.  Brendan Hendriks was 1 for 4 with 3 runs scored.  Shane Zimmer was 1 for 3 with a 3 run HR.  Ben Douglas was 2 for 3 with 5 RBI’s and a double.  Chayse Marion was 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and a double.  Luke Barry was 1 for 3 with with 1 run scored, SB and RBI.  Curtis Mazurekwich was 1 for 2 with 3 RBI’s and SB. 

Game 2 saw Paul Schaak start on the mound and took the loss throwing 3 innings allowing 8 hits, 6 runs, with 3 K’s and 1 BB.  Levi Westerlund threw the next 3 innings allowing 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, with 4 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Ben Dartnell threw the final inning allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 5.  Ben Douglas was 2 for 2 with a run scored.  Brody McDonald was 1 for 2 with a run scored and 1 RBI.  Curtis Mazurekwich was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Nick Koh was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s. 

The split pushes the Jets record to 7 – 1.  The Jets and Prospects are back at it again tomorrow at 1 pm (9 inning game).

Jets finish off the weekend on a positive note!

The VAB Jets finished the weekend off on a positive note.  Game 1 saw the Jets win by a score of 5-0. 

Paul Schaak started on the mound earning the victory going 4 innings allowing 0 hits, with 4 K’s and 3 BB’s.  Ben Douglas threw 1 inning allowing 0 hits with 1 K and 1 BB.  Ben Dartnell threw final 2 innings allowing 0 hits with 4 K’s and 0 BB’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 2 for 3 with a run scored.  Luke Barry was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Brendan Hendriks was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.  Chayse Marion was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Curtis Mazurkewich was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Nick Koh was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Marc St. Jean was 2 for 3 with a double, SB and 2 runs scored. 

Game 2 saw the game called after 3 innings with the Jets winning at the time by a score of 3-2.  On the mound Derek Grubel started and went 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 unearned run with 2 K’s and 3 BB’s.  Victor Caruso threw the final 1 1/3 allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 2 K’s and 2 BB’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Brandt Hittel who was 2 for 2 with a double, RBI and run scored.  Ben Douglas was 1 for 2 with a 2 run HR.  Shane Zimmer was 1 for 1. 

The win pushes the Jets overall record to 6 – 0.  Next action is next Saturday vs Edmonton Prospects 1 pm (DH).
