Jets finish season with 4-2 victory over the Lethbridge Bulls!

Vauxhall, AB –

The Jets finished off the season with their first victory in 3 years vs the WMBL powerhouse Lethbridge Bulls by a score of 4-2.  The Jets ended the season with a 24-10-2 record and tonights victory was certainly a team effort with a very short roster and bench.  Jordan Wong started on the mound and was great going 4 innings allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 BB’s, with 5 K’s.  Cole Stober pitched the next 2 inning allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 0 BB’s, with 2 K’s.  Tyler Vavra earned the save throwing the final inning allowing 1 hit, 1 unearned run, 0 BB’s, with 1 K. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored.  Tyler Hayes was 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.  Mike Washburn was 1 for 3 with 2 HBP’s.  Josh Stephenson was a workhorse behind the plate again as well as going 2 for 3. 

The Jets coaching staff and players would like to thanks the parents, fans, community members, student body, billets, and families who supported our program in 2008/2009.  It was a great season with many ups and downs and we strongly feel our student-athletes are BETTER PEOPLE – BETTER PLAYERS (in that order).  Once a JET always a JET!

Jets loose to the WMBL (college) Bulls!

Lethbridge, AB –

The Jets lost by a score of 6-1 to the Lethbridge Bulls.  The game was tight until the bottom of the 6th when the Bulls broke it open with 3 runs.   Taylor Simmonds started on the mound going 3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 run, 2 BB’s, with 2 K’s.  Tyson Denham threw 2 innings of relief allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 3 BB’s, with 1 K.  Victor Caruso threw the final inning allowing 3 runs (2 earned runs, on 2 hits, 2 BB’s, with 1 K. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Hayes who was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Shane Zimmer was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Jean-Guy Bilodeau was 1 for 3.  Daniel Worb was 1 for 2 with a double. 

The loss puts the Jets at 23-10-2 on the season.  The Jets finish off a successful spring season with their final home game of the season tonight vs Lethbridge Bulls beginning at 7 pm.

Jets errors lead to loss!

Great Falls, Montana –

After a rain out day the Jets found themselves in a semi final game vs Great Falls Stallions to earn a birth in the Tommy Tallef final.  The game was 1-1 into the bottom on the 5th and 7 errors in the 7th inning led to a 11-1 pounding by the Stallions.  Tyler Vavra started on the mound going 4 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits, 7 runs, 6 unearned runs, 5 K’s, 2 BB’s.  Taylor Simmonds threw the final 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 hit, 4 unearned runs, 2 K’s and no BB’s. 

Offensively, the Jets were led by Daniel Worb who was 1 for 2 with a run scored and Tyler Hayes who was 1 for 2 with a double and RBI. 

The loss puts the Jets record to 23-9-2.  Next action is in Lethbridge vs WMBL powerhouse Bulls at 7 pm and Thursday back in Vauxhall at 7 pm vs the Bulls.

Jets split in Great Falls!

Great Falls, Montana –

The Jets lost 9-8 to the Calgary Cubs in game 1.  The Jets came out flat and could not recover – Jamin Heller started on the mound going 4 2/3 innings, allowing 6 hits, allowing 8 runs, 5 earned runs, 5 BB’s, with 0 K’s.  Victor Caruso finished things out throwing 1/3 of innings allowing 2 hits, 1 BB.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Hayes who was 2 for 3, Shane Zimmer was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Mike Washburn was 1 for 3 with a 2 run HR.  Matt Clark was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  

Game 2 saw the Jets win a close one over the Great Falls Electrics 7-6.   Jordan Wong started on the mound earning a no decision going 4 innings allowing 2 hits, 4 runs, 1 earned run, 7 BB’s, 8 K’s.  Daniel Worb earned the victory going 3 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB, with 6 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel was 2 for 3 with a BB and run scored.  Tyler Hayes was 1 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and run scored.  Shane Zimmer was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s. 

The Jets play 2 games tomorrow  – 1:15 pm vs undefeated Great Falls Stallions and 3:30 pm  vs 1-1 Edmonton Cardinals. 

The split puts the record to 23-8-2.

Jets win Haven Agenices Tournament Championships!

Vauxhall, AB –

The Jets came out swinging today in the 3rd Annual Jets Invitational presented by Haven Agencies winning by a score of 15-3 over the Medicine Hat Monarches.  Cole Stober started on the mound going 4 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs with only 1 earned, 1 BB, with 5 K’s.  Taylor Simmonds threw the final inning allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks with 0 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets had a big day from Daniel Worb who was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s.  Adam Nelubowich was 2 for 4 with a run scored, 2 run HR and 3 RBI’s.  Mike Washburn was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI.  Josh Stephenson was 2 for 3 with 1 run scored, 3 RBI’s.  Jamin Heller was 1 for 1 with a 2 run HR, 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.  Brandt Hittel and Shane Zimmer also added 1 hit each.

The tournament victory is the 3rd straight victory for the Jets in their home tournament.  Since the Academy started in 2006/2007 the Jets history in tournaments is as follows:

2006/2007 – Jets Tournament — Champions (4-1 record), Tommy Talef (Great Falls) — Champions (5-0 record)

2007/2008 – Jets Tournament — Champions (5-0 record), Tommy Talef — Cancelled, Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) — Champions (5-0 record)

2008/2009 – Jets Tournament — Champions (5-0 record), Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) — 4th Place (3-2 record), Best of the West (Kamloops) — Champions (5-0 record), Tommy Talef (next weekend).

GOOD LUCK TO STEVEN INCH AND ADAM NELUBOWICH IN THEIR QUEST TO MAKE THE FINAL CAMP FOR TEAM CANADA.  They leave Tuesday to the Dominican Republic for 9 days.

Jets win a tight one over Great Falls to advance to the finals!

Vauxhall, AB –

The Jets won a great game over Great Falls by a score of 2-0.  Steven Inch dominated on the mound going 6 innings with 9 K’s, 1 BB, 2 hits, 0 runs.  Inch dominated the game in his last Jets start before heading off to Team Canada in the Dominican Replublic on Tuesday with teammate Adam Nelubowich.  Victor Caruso earned the save going the final inning striking out 1 with 0 hits, 0 runs.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Kym Barthel who was 1 for 3.  Tyler Hayes who was 2 for 3 with a run scored.  Shane Zimmer who was 1 for 2 with a run scored. 

The win puts the Jets record to 21-7-2 and 4-0 in the tournament.  Next action is tomorrows final beginning at 4 pm vs Medicine Hat, Lethbridge or Great Falls – depending on the outcome of the morning games.

Jets win a tight one over Medicine Hat!

The Jets came out on top in a tight game vs the Medicine Hat Monarchs by a score of 6-5.   Brandon Petite started on the mound earning a no-decision going 4 2/3 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 3 BB’s, with 9 K’s.  Jamin Heller earned the victory going 2 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB, with 1 K.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Daniel Worb who was 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored.  Matt Clark was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Shane Zimmer, Adam Nelubowich, Tyler Hayes, Brandt Hittel and Kym Barthel all had 1 hit each. 

The game ended in dramatic fashion with Medicine Hat scoring 2 runs in the top of the 7th to tie the game up and the Jets coming back in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.  Brandt Hittel led off (Wong pinch ran) followed by a Daniel Worb push bunt for a base hit, wild pitch and ended with a Sac Fly by Barthel to score Wong for the win.

The win pushes the Jets record to 20-7-2 and 3-0 in the tournament.  Next action is tonight at 7 pm vs Great Falls Electrics.

Jets win a big one over Trail to go to 2-0!

The Jets offense came out swinging in a 15-1 victory over the Trail Jays out of BC.  On the mound Jordan Wong started on the mound earning the victory going 4 innings allowing 0 hits, 1 run, 6 BB’s, with 5 K’s.  Tyson Denham finished things off for the no hitter going 1 inning allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 BB’s, with 2 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Tyler Hayes was 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and 1 runs scored.  Adam Nelubowich was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored.  Shane Zimmer was 1 for 4 with a double, 1 RBI and 1 run scored.  Mike Washburn was 2 for 2 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 BB’s.  Josh Stephenson was 1 for 3 with a double, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  Matt Clark had a big day going 2 for 3 with a HR and 2 runs scored.  Daniel Worb was 1 for 3 with a run scored. 

The win puts the Jets record to 19-7-2.  The Jets are 2-0 in their home tournament with games tomorrow at 10 am vs Medicine Hat and 7 pm vs Great Falls.

Jets open Haven Agencies Tournament with win!

The Jets opened their home tournament with a victory over the Lethbridge Spitz Elks by a score of 4-0.  Tyler Vavra started on the mound and earned the complete game victory in his best performance of the season going 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 0 runs, 2 BB’s, with 8 K’s.   Offensively, the Jets were led by Mike Washburn who was 2 for 2 with 2 singles, 1 RBI, 1 BB, and 1 run scored.  Adam Nelubowich was 1 for 2 with a double, 1 run scored and an RBI.  Shane Zimmer, Jamin Heller, and Tyler Hayes all added a hit a piece in the victory.
