Jets take 2 in Lethbridge to win PBA Tournament

Lethbridge, AB – 

The offence came alive in the semi final vs Saskatoon DBacks winning 12 – 2 and then coming from behind in dramatic fashion in the finals scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to walk off 4-3 over a very good Calgary Jr. Dino’s 4-3 in the final.

The semi final saw the Jets go down 2-0 after 1 inning before Adam Macko threw 4 scoreless innings enroute to a 12-2 victory.  Macko threw 5 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned run with 1 BB and 8 K’s.  Offensively, the Jets were led by Owen Harms who was 2 for 3 with a double.  Brett Mercier had a huge day going 2 for 3 with a grand slam and 5 RBI’s.  Jared Binsfeld was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s.  Cooper Jones was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s.  Dayton Peters was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s.  Ty Penner was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.  Kaiden Cardoso rounded out the offence going 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI to round out the offence.

The victory put the Jets in the final vs a good Calgary Jr. Dino’s team.  The Jets led 2-0 after 4 innings before the Jr. Dino’s scored 3 and led 3-2 with 2 outs in the 7th inning.  Liam Vulcano hit a deep fly ball to centre that went off the outfielders glove to put a runner on 2nd.  Brett Mercier laced a ball a ball to right field to tie up the game and a ground ball to short that took a tough hop helped the Jets walked off for the 2nd straight year becoming the PBA Tournament Champions.

Ben Erwin was great going 7 innings allowing 6 hits, 3 unearned runs with 1 BB and 5 K’s.  Offensively the Jets were led by Owen Harms who was 1 for 4.  Brett Mercier had a great day going 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s including the game winner.  Ty Penner rounded out the offence going 1 for 4.

The Jets played the tournament 5 Team Canada players down as well as playing 6 games in 3 days to win the Championship.  Next action is a home and home vs the Okotoks Dawgs.
