Jets win semi final – lose the final!

Las Vegas, NV –

The VAB Jets had a great semi final game with the North Shore Twins from BC.  The Jets went up 7-0, then found themselves down 9-7 before coming out on top 14-9.  Luc Hebert started on the mound and was dominant on the mound with a no hitter threw 3 innings and ran into trouble in the 4th.  Hebert threw 3 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits, 8 runs, 3 BB’s and 5 K’s.  Nelson Quark earned the victory in relief going 2 2/3 inning allowing 3 hits, 1 run with 4 K’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Justin Clarkson was 4 for 5 with an RBI double.  Jager Toffan was 1 for 4.  Nolan Bumstead was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s.  Anthony McKinley was 1 for 4 with an RBI.  Brayden Resch was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Jose Calderon was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Treyton Grant finished 2 for 4.

The Jets went into the final and got behind early giving up 7 runs in the 1st inning.  Pat Machibroda started going 2/3 of an inning allowing 6 hit, 7 runs, 6 earned runs with 1 BB.  Jesse Borden went 1 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned runs with 1 BB and 1 K.  Nolan Rattai threw 1 2/3 allowing 2 hits, 1 run with 1 BB.  Offensively, the Jets only managed 3 hits.  Chris Thibideau went 1 for 2.  Nolan Bumstead and Anthony McKinley each hat 1 hit.

Jets hammer Hillcrest 18-4!

Las Vegas, NV

The Jets took control of the game in the top of the 1st with 5 runs and never looked back.  Nick Stobbe started on the mound throwing 4 solid innings allowing 7 hits, 3 unearned runs, 1 BB and 2 K’s.  Nathan Haroldson finished the game off throwing 2 good innings allowing 3 hits, 1 run with 1 BB and 4 K’s.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Chris Thibideau who was 2 for 5 with 3 runs scored.  Justin Clarkson was 1 for 2.  Jager Toffan was 1 for 2 with a 2 RBI double.  Nolan Bumstead was 3 for 4 with an RBI.  Jose Calderon had one of the best offensive days in Jets history going 5 for 5 with a HR, 3 doubles and 8 RBI’s.  Brett Harrison was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  Mike Holmes was 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.  Joel Mazurkewich was 1 for 5 with a run scored.  Nolan Rattai and Brayden Resch rounded out the offense with 1 hit each.

The victory secures the Jets a spot in tomorrows semi final at 10:30 am at Bishop Gorman High School. The opponent for the semi final is yet to be determined.

Jets play well winning 10-5 over Newberry Park, California

The Jets were victorious over Newberry Park, CA by a score of 10-5.  The game was back and forth until Justin Clarkson hit a 3 run shot in the bottom of the 6th.

Ben Onyshko started on the mound going 3 innings allowing 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 3 BB’s and 4 K’s earning the victory.  JP Stevenson went 4 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB and 1 K earning the save.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Chris Thibideau who was 1 for 4.  Justin Clarkson had a big day going 3 for 4 with a 3 run HR, double and 3 RBI’s.  Brayden Resch was 1 for 2 with an RBI.  Nolan Bumstead was 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI’s.  Nolan Rattai was 1 for 4.  Next Next action for the Jets is tomorrow morning at 8 am vs Hillcrest, Utah.

Jets coming out swinging against the Gaels!

Las Vegas, NV

Game 1 of the season was a great baseball game with tons of excitement.  The Gaels hit a double in the bottom of 7 to tie the score at 10.  The game ended on a diving play in right field by Treyton Grant to finish the game.

Brandon Radmacher started on the mound going 4 solid innings allowing 6 hits, 5 runs with 1 run earned, 2 BB’s and 2 K’s.  Nelson Quark threw 1 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits, 4 runs with 1 BB.  Jesse Borden threw very well going 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 run with 3 K’s and 1 BB.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Chris Thibideau who went 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 stolen bases.  Justin Clarkson was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Anthony McKinley was 2 for 3 with a 3 run HR and 4 RBI’s.  Brayden Resch was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.  Jager Toffan was 3 for 4 with double.

The Jets open the season in Las Vegas, NV!

Vauxhall, AB – 

Several games have been cancelled due to poor weather conditions in Southern Alberta.  The Jets have continued to prepare indoors and occasionally outside for the start of the 2013 season and look forward to travelling south.

The season opener is now going to be in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The Jets are travelling to Vegas for the 7th straight season and are taking part in the 13th Annual Desert Classic at Nationally ranked Bishop Gorman high school.  The Jets have historically played in the Easter Classic but the change was made due to a conflict with the Best of West Tournament in Kamloops, BC.

The challenging schedule at the Desert Classic is:

Tuesday March 26th – 6 pm – Practice @ College of Southern Nevada

Wednesday March 27th – 3:30 pm – Vauxhall vs Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) @ Bishop Gorman HS

Thursday March 28th – 3:30 pm – Newberry Park, California vs Vauxhall @ Bishop Gorman HS

Friday March 29th – 8 am – Hillcrest, Utah vs Vauxhall @ Bishop Gorman HS

Saturday March 30th – TBD

7th Annual Awards/Scholarship Banquet was a great success!

Vauxhall, AB – 

The 7th Annual Awards/Scholarship Fundraising Banquet was a tremendous success.  Marty Baceda led the evening again as our MC.  Former Toronto Blue Jay – Duane Ward electrified the crowd with stories of the past, lessons he learned and inspiration for the future.  Several Awards and Scholarships were handed out highlighted by the Reno Lizzi Scholarships.  Barbara & Yukio Kitagawa continued to inspire the entire Jets organization as they matched all donations in the silent & live auction up to $35,000.00.  The 2013 banquet has set a new standard for years to come!!!
